Why do you go?
FamilyHost_Meredith - January 25, 2009
Everyone has a favorite reason to go to Disney World. Some folks love seeing the characters. Others just have the rides that they've ridden since childhood and they want to ride again.

What's your favorite reason for going to Disney World?

Before I had my daughter I would go about 4 times a year. I would attend the Disneyana conventions. People thought i was nuts to always want to go to Disney. Since I had my daughter, it is a pleasure to see the joy on her face when she sees all of her friends at the park. I have great photos and fond memories of all of my visits with her. We still go about 3 - 4 times a year. She is the only child I know in our area who at 3 has been on almost 10 trips to Disney (we don't live close). it is always magic!

We live 30 miles away, and have been season passholders for the last 12 years. We have seen changes in the Parks, and am saddened by some things. BUT, we continue to renew our passes for DW is a wonderful escape from the daily grind. We like to go on a Friday night to EPCOT just to get a cup of coffee and relax. Last night we went (husband, me, 2 teens) and got a cup of coffee, stolled around the countries and sat and ate French pastries during the fireworks. Usually after 7pm, it doesn't cost to park so all we are out is what we eat. Alright, the teens don't care to go anymore (they have been to the parks over 200x's), so we will probably renew with the "Epcot after 4" passes which is 1/2 the cost of a season pass (with no blackouts!). It's a great night out and cheaper than a night at the movies!

I am curious about what changes sadden you. When I first went to MK on my honeymoon (October 1971), there were Disney characters just walking around the park. I have a picture my husband took of me and a bear. Now the characters only appear at certain times in certain places.

I get asked this a LOT because we go every year (and I should tell you, we aren't wealthy, but I am a bargain shopper and have going to Disney on a budget down to a science!). For me, it is a total escape! As soon as I walk into the parks (we almost always start with Magic Kingom and get there at about 12:30PM after our plane arrives at 10AM) I literally feel all tension leave me. I forget all my worries and just enjoy. Also, it is soooo cool that my 10-year old son and I are totally together and in sync when we are there -- being a mom who works full time, there is nothing better than this! We don't get that same quality time together at a beach or other vacation. There really is magic in the air -- combination of atmosphere, sense of pampering from the cast members, fun rides, silly characters -- just the total experience.

That's a very simple question... Disney is my happy place!!! It's not so much the rides or characters, although they help, but it's just the simple escape from the real world!

Nobody is ever bored when we go to WDW. We have been on so many different vacations, but we keep going back to WDW, because it makes us all happy at the same time, and that's so rare! All we have to see is a commercial for WDW, and the room gets quiet, and this far away look comes over each face in the room, and for 30 seconds we are taken back to the place where we achieve family harmony. Inevitably somebody asks, "When can we go back?" And the answer is "Never soon enough!"
