My son's 1st trip to Disney World!
parkers_momma07 - February 05, 2009
Does anyone know if we can bring our own wagon to disney. I know there are strollers we can rent but I'd much rather save money and bring our own. I know I could bring his stroller but I figured a wagon would be much better.

Hi Parker's Momma. I'm Henry's Momma and we are from Virginia. Henry is turning 2 in a month and has already visited The World 4 times! So, I'm getting pretty good at the baby/toddler aspect of the World. I highly DO NOT recommend a wagon and I'm pretty sure they are not allowed. I don't recall ever seeing one there.

Why I don't recommend -
1. Sleeping - much better to have a stroller where he can sleep reclined and catch a breeze.
2. Strollers are your best friend - they carry your boy, your boy's stuff, your stuff, your drink, keep people from bumping into you, anything that you buy that Parker will need with him IMMEDIATELY. (Dono (Donald Duck) Meeeee - over and over again)
3. Sun shade/rain cover - I know sme wagins have canopies but nothing like a stroller.

Why I don't recommend renting -
1. VERY HARD PLASTIC
2. They all look the same when in you go to find it in the big stroller parking lots.
3. You still have to get your tired, over stimulated toddler back to bus, boat, car, outside the park. If you staying on property, then get him back to the room which can be a trek in itself depending on the resort.

Though you didn't ask about this but it being your son's 1st trip - I highly recommend the Baby Care Centers. There is one in every park. It makes diaper changes a snap. You can use the bathroom without the whole shuffle/dance. It also is just a great place to take a break. The last 2 visits my son had just gotten mobile and was clamoring to get out of the stroller. The parks are way too busy and crowded to let the little guy wild. The Baby Care Center was haven for when he just needed to stretch his legs. Plus - AIR CONDITIONING - ahhhhh.

Have a magical trip and please feel free to ask me an

No problem. We love WDW and we love sharing it with our son and helping out other parents.

I've seen some really smart parents there. One mom made ID tags for her kids. On one side, picture of child, 1st name and age; other side, picture of parents, names, and contact number. She had it attached to belt loop - brillant! Looked like it had started out as a luggage tag.

I see that Parker is dressed as a lion. If you are staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, they don't allow balloons on property due to the animals. My son is obsessed with balloons so we haven't stayed there since he was an infant.

Something that we just found out last time - shows that have handi-capable seating are great. We have had multiple castmates allow us to park Henry in his stroller in a handi-capable spot while he snoozed away. We got to enjoy the show and Henry got a good nap.

Using the handi-capable spot for your snoozing toddler is great as long as someone in a wheelchair doesn't need the spot. You can easily pick up your son and carry him to a seat. It's a little harder for me to pick up my 73 pound 9 year old out of her wheelchair and carry her to a seat.

Oh definitely - didn't mean to infer to take a spot away from someone that is truly handi-capable. We travel during the off-season, lite travel times. There has always been plenty room for all and no one was offended or had to wait for another show due to my sleeping toddler.

Glad to hear you are sensitive to people who are handi-capable. Many people are very considerate, but you would be surprised at how many are not.

One thing that I suggest to people traveling to the World for the first time is don't over plan. Don't go with the expectation of seeing all of the characters and getting on all of the rides. Plan on seeing a few of the characters and a couple of rides. Anything above this is an added bonus. Also, if you can take in a couple of breaks for naps and/or people watching it gives you a chance to relax and de-compress. In other words, try to see the World through your child's eyes, not yours. If you do this, you will have much happier memories and it will truly be the "Happiest place on Earth".

I don't think you can take a wagon. For us a renting a stroller was easier. We did not have to lug it at the airport or from the hotel to the parks. Especially after the familiy is exhausted from having a great time at the parks. The rental were okay. My son was ableto sleep well in them. They were able to hold other knick knacks as well.

I completely agree...you need to plan lots of extra time for little ones (for naps, eating, etc.) I took my son for the first time when he was around 8 months old. We spent most of that time walking around and seeing characters while my husband was at his conferences...this was it was nice and easy for my son. We just recently got back from our son's second trip (this time he was 19 months) and we definitely had to take our breaks for eating, naps and just getting away from all the excitement. I made the mistake of trying to plan a few extra things thinking that since our son was older that he'd be ok, but that wasn't always the case...but all-in-all we had such a great time watching his reactions to all the rides we rode and characters he met!! It was wonderful, and we can't wait to take him back!
