Finding the Characters
FamilyHost_Meredith - August 31, 2008
What's your strategy for photo ops with the characters? Do you search them out? Or do you figure you'll just bump into them whenever you find them?

We planned dinners to at least get a few characters, but we also just bumped into a few. We ran into Stitch, Pinnochio, Flik, Baloo, and a bunch of others. Micah really got into searching them out after the first day!

We always do character meals- they're fun and you get to meet lots of characters. I like stopping by that character connection place at EPCOT to see if any unusual characters are there. Just happening upon characters is fun, but we definitely seek them out too. Our most unusual character was Friar Tuck in Magic Kingdom- at first no one knew who he was.

We seek out Mickey, Minnie and Pooh, but I really enjoy the element of surprise by just running into them. It's especially fun when my daughters spot a character to run to. I guess it's just the look on their face when they're caught off guard.

We do character meals to make sure we see Mickey. And we always have to be sure and see Buzz Lightyear. Other than that, we just see who we see. I'm not even sure my son will WANT to see any of them next time we go. He will be 8 tomorrow and we probalby won't go again until he is 9 or 10. He might be too cool for character meet N greets by then.

Sounds like character dining is a pretty popular strategy.

We don't do many character meals, but we are starting to try to add it in now actually. We usually we come across them as were walk through the park or get in the shorter lines to meet them. And we always go to the Judge's Tent in Toon Town to meet Mickey cause he is there all day til like 8pm or something usually. The line goes pretty quick and that way we always get to meet Mickey, my little man's favorite. :)
Last time we went Minnie was there too and it was so great because it was my little niece's first trip and she was just amazed!

That's a cute picture. What a treat to find the two of them together!

We keep to the schedule for their apperances at the traditional locations. But, we also know to look around in out of the way places for characters that are not on a schedule. For example, we found Pocohontas in the MK to the left of the castle in a garden area as you cross into Liberty Square. Just keep your eyes open and searching at all times. You just never know where the magic will happen.

We tend to do both. Character meals and scheduled meet n greets are when we work hard to catch our favorites, but then we also love to "shop" in World Showcase. Shop=Mommy looks for not normally found characters. We go country by country and see who happens to be walking around. It's always a blast to find someone out of the way, or three at once, as is the case with Belle, Beast, and Sleeping Beauty/Aurora/Briar Rose in the pretty smelling shop in France. The UK is constantly changing up who's in there. Pooh & Friends, or Mary Poppins?? Or will it be Alice and the Mad Hatter?? Anyway, we mix it up so much. It makes it more of an unexpected perk for the kids (and me!!). :)
