I had the unfortunate experience tonight of watching some of the magic disappear from my son as we watched the Disneyland Sing-a-long songs. He was singing and watching, when all of a sudden he informed us who was real, who was fake, and who was real but dressed up to be someone else. It honestly broke my heart! So, my question is, when did you or your family realize that costumes exist? Was it as early as my son, at 6, or as late as me, at 30? Not acceptable?
Oh my goodness, that's so sad! I don't even want to think about the day my son realizes that there are people inside the costumes... Although, the way I see it, the characters are real! The cast members are so dedicated to the Disney magic that they truly embody the character that they don; therefore making the character true and REAL!! ;-) At least that's how I see it, and that's what I'll try to explain to my son when that day comes! I hope this helps you...don't stop believing!! ;-) Not acceptable?

WoW!!!As a Disney nut of two young girls I really wish they would never lose the magic of the characters. That being said, my 7 year old is smart as a whip, and knows when something is up. So, my story(and I'm sticking to it as long as possible!) is that Mickey(any character including Santa, Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, etc.) can't possible be everywhere at once(and especially during their busy seasons) so they have lots of helpers(sometimes people we know) who keep their secrets and help them out whenever needed!!! That Cinderella would be one frazzled Princess if she had to run from one park to another just for pics or for every parade. So, now both Louisa and my 3 t/o Emily know that there are lots of friends that help them out when they get too busy of need a break!!! Not acceptable?

That's a really great idea. That's how my parents always explained the shopping mall Santa Clauses to me. It also works for Disney. Not acceptable?
