Bossy toddlers
gwenluvstink - August 23, 2009
My three yr old daughter has been trying to boss me, my husband and other kdis what to do lately. She has been so demanding that it is just driving us crazy! We keep telling her not to tell us or anyone else what to do because it is rude and not nice. I'm not sure if she listens to us because she just sits there and stares at us for a while. No matter how often we tell her to stop she continues to do like it's nobody's business. I want to know what I can do to help her behave and act like the little princess I always wanted her to be?

Well bossing only works if you end up following through. When she orders you around, just don't do it. Wait for her to ask in a polite, well-mannered way. It's going to be hard but you really just need to ignore it and not engage.

Thanks, I'll try to do my best to follow your advice. We do usually ask her to ask in a nice way not in a demanding way. We keep reminding her to always say please, but there are also some times that she would refuse to say please when she wants something from one of us. She'll whine and cry, and we'll even tell her, "If you want something you have to say please." It takes her a while, but I think to her it feels like it's forever. But, sometimes we try not to give in.
