My oldest who is nine and autistic is not fully potty trained yet. This has become a tug of war that no matter what battle plan we have come up with nothing has worked. We have dealt with the frustration on both sides, hers and ours of trying to make this accomplishment happen.
We have had behaviorists help, therapists, and every other resource I have found under a rock on the chance that this time it would work. The behaviorist that we have now has helped us far beyond all the others but we have yet to get all the way there.
Having first hand knowledge of how hard it can be what suggestions or advice does everyone have, I know other parents who have tried everything as well so anything tossed this way that might help in the slightest is greatly appreciated!

A friend of mines child is also autistic and she had the same problems up until she was 6. She thought it might be the sound of the bathroom that was bothering her child. What she tried was getting a port-a-potty for older children that she could sit anywhere quiet. Here comes the hard part for some people, letting their child see them use the toilet, so they can see what they need to do. After some embarrassing moments for the mom and some time, it did work for her daughter. She still has accidents but she does use the potty more often. I hope this helps!

That is great. She uses the potty but not consistently enough that makes much of a difference. I got over the embarrassment a long time ago and have been willing to do whatever it takes to help her achieve this. She loves to be independent and this is something that really frustrates her. Sometimes I just wish there was an easy button for this!
I am very interested in what other tips and advice everyone else has, come on lots of us have been down this road help me out here!
