The Pottytime Battle Rages on
FamilyHost_Kristina - November 19, 2008
My oldest who is nine and autistic is not fully potty trained yet. This has become a tug of war that no matter what battle plan we have come up with nothing has worked. We have dealt with the frustration on both sides, hers and ours of trying to make this accomplishment happen.

We have had behaviorists help, therapists, and every other resource I have found under a rock on the chance that this time it would work. The behaviorist that we have now has helped us far beyond all the others but we have yet to get all the way there.

Having first hand knowledge of how hard it can be what suggestions or advice does everyone have, I know other parents who have tried everything as well so anything tossed this way that might help in the slightest is greatly appreciated!

I saw something like this at my son's uroligist office. They also had a watch that reminded them when to potty and I beleive it was connected to the sensor.

Here is a link to the potty watch:

It vibrates and auto-resets the timer and everything. I am actually purchasing one right now!

There is also this one which is more cost effective and can also be used by toddlers who aren't special needs as well when they are potty training.

Oh that would be great! I will have to look for that. Do you remember where you heard or saw it?

Me too, the more research I have done on it has shown great results and asking questions to other parents in some autism groups I know they rave about finding a product like this and are grateful to have another thing to try that might work this time!

I will show this to her behaviorist when we see her next so she can let other parents know about it too!

I think it was Dr. Phil or Oprah, and I want to say it was called tinkletoonz or something close to it.

I heard about musical sensor for the childs underpants. It starts to play a tune as soon as it gets wet. Maybe that would help as a reminder to go??
