New Year$ Re$olution$
FamilyHost_Annabelle - December 27, 2008
We all make them, we all break them, especially when it comes to our budgets. Last year I actually kept a resolution and kept track of how much money I saved by using coupons ($537.25).

What money-saving resolutions are you making for the new year? What will you do to make sure you're successful? Let's dish about it!

This year resolutions are not spending money that I don't have and pay bills on time. I have a bad habit of spending money on things I want or don't need. Especially when I down on myself. Then I feel bad about buying them. Also I have a hard time with paying bills on time, but I want to be able to own a house one day, so I know I need to start making payments on time, and not put them, because that will not help me get a house someday in the future. Everyone got tips on how to help not buy things when you are down?

I am going to try my best to tighten down a lot more, save more and also I will stop spending the extra money on clothes for my teens.

Hi Jill! Thanks for sharing that. When things are bothering me I usually either talk to my husband, minister or close friend (depending on what the issue is) or the person I'm having an issue with. Often, I write down my feelings and read it over to see if it's something I can change. If it's something I can change, I take an appropriate action. If it's nothing I can do anything about, I try to accept it and move on. For me it took practice to be able to move on.

As far as paying the bills on time, most of my bills go on my charge card so I can take advantage of the cash back benefit. The day the bill comes in, I write the check and mail it. That's the only way I can do it and stay on top of it. I used to have a monthly pocket organizer which helped me to get disciplined in the beginning of my quest to be more organized. Now I just pay the bill when it comes in. With the budget we're on, the money is there because our income is not being spent on anything other than the regular bills.

Good luck Jill! I hope you find what works for you. Please keep us posted!

One thing I did when my girls were old enough to get a job was to tell them that our household clothing allowance was going to be reduced considerably, and that beyond the basics, if they wanted more clothing, they'd have to get a part time job. That's exactly what they did. What a relief to our budget!

I think a budget resolution would be wonderful, but I'm not a good one for resolutions. Some of the ideas I read were great though. So thank you for your tips.

My son started working a few months ago, so I am already spending less...what a huge relief! Now to get my daughter out into the work force!

I know exactly what you're saying! My granddaughter isn't old enough to be employed yet, but she babysits and earns money that way. She's happy that she has her own spending money, and so is her mom!

So I decided that I'm going to get my finances in order so I can become a DVC member this year. That's my hope anyway.

We are going to continue to use our coupons, as well as use more rebates whenever we can. We are putting money aside for Christmas and Birthdays.Don't tell the kids, but we are researching a trip to Disney World for the summer!
