Frugal Staycations
FamilyHost_Annabelle - July 11, 2009
Have you ever thought of taking a "Staycation"? That's a vacation where you stay local. We live near Boston where there's an abundance of activities to see and do. We're going to be taking the Boston By Foot tours in a few weeks. Our local library provides free passes to many activities in the city, including BBF tours, and this year we're going to take advantage of this service. We'll be taking a Duck Boat Tour through Boston as soon as our niece comes for her visit in a couple of weeks. We've been here for decades and have yet to do that. It's time!

Obvious advantages of taking a staycation are that it's less expensive than a vacation involving air fare or cruise fees. And staycations are convenient as well. If you were to take a staycation in your town/city, what types of activities would you plan? What is there to see and do where you are? What other staycation ideas to you have? Let's talk about it!

I live in Las Vegas a tourist destination. There are tons of things to do that's fun and free or inexpensive. I signed up for email alerts for the hotels on the strip. Whenever there is a sale i know about it. For both my kids birthday we dont do parties we do a hotel weekend. with lots of activities.

There are great shows all the time there, plus the family entertainment venues at lots of the hotels. Glad you are taking advantage of it.

Growing up my dad was a workaholic and we didnt go on many far trips so we would make our own fun ... we'd get big tarps and turn the water hose on and make a huge slip-n-slide.., we would ride go carts, go to the beach we lived 5 mins away, we'd jump in my dads bass boat and pretend we where pirates on the deep blue .. we never had to spend alot or go far away.. even though it would have been nice to go to Disney but I will make sure I do it for my kids.

How about a picnic in the park, a little frisbee golf and a scavenger hunt.
This site has several outdoor scavenger hunt ideas:

Also, geocaching is a great fun with kids of all ages. How about a multi-cache adventure!

I know in my area if you show that your a local with your ID you can get a discount some places ive got 10 to 15% off and some places give miltiary discounts too. Check with your towns chamber of commerce they sometimes have dates of free outdoor concerts at your local parks .. and outdoor festivals and cookoffs are always fun

Those are great suggestions, especial the idea about checking with the local Chamber of Commerce. Thanks for sharing them. :)
