My husband is in sales and with the economic crisis right now people are really watching there money and that unfortunately means less is spent on lawn care, my husbands business. So our grocery bill was killing us easy 100-150 a week. I cook dinner every night and I am a stay at home mom with my daughter. Recently we had some family staying with us until they could get into a place and I guess they thought it was a vacation because they did not contribute at all. I went from having 3 mouths to feed to 6 and in less then two months had spent around a thousand dollars on groceries, literally breaking my husband and me. I had to do something but I did not want to sacrifice my way of living, I am kind of a food snob, cooking is my passion. I found out that if I went online to my grocery stores website, I shop at Publix, then I could see what items were on sale and bogo. I would make my meal plans from these items and then when I had my completed list of everything I needed I went online and printed coupons for as many items as I could find. I am happy to say I now spend between 50-60 dollars a week for the same amount and quality of groceries I was spending over 100-150 dollars for. Last month I spent 200 dollars total on groceries, it has definantly lightened the load on my back. Like many stay at home moms I pride myself in being able to keep up my house, raise a wonderful child, and be as cost thrifty as possible on the necessary items needed to do the other two. Plus not many husbands, well at least mine, understand how much food is needed to keep a happy healthy household running. This new plan has definantly helped our relationship. I would be more then happy to let you know about some of the sites I go to to get coupons. One of my favorites is at juiceyjuice.com you can print a dollar off one juice, so when they are buy one get one I can buy 2 bottles of Juicy Juice for $1.59!!!!! I hope this helps especially during the holiday season :) Not acceptable?
I do the same thing. I create a menu based on what's on sale, then I get the items I need, and nothing else. One thing that helps me stick to my list is to leave hubby at home. When he's at the store my menu and budget go down the drain! LOL

For me it's the kids. They always find something we have to have that is not on the list. Not acceptable?

I remember those days! I would tell the girls at the beginning of the shopping trip that we were getting only what is on the list, and that if they ask for something that's not on the list (like candy or other treats) they would have to trade the new item for something on the list. When she was three, my older daughter announced that she wanted candy bars. I told her what item on the list she wanted to give up. Without missing a beat, she said, "Do you have cough medicine on the list?" LOL - after I stopped chuckling, I told her it had to be something that was a "treat." Not acceptable?

LOL, I so agree. The hubby has to stay home or else I go broke. Have to leave his mom home too. Other wise she'll spend her whole paycheck on junk for her son and the babies. Guess I know where hubby gets his spending addiction from.... Not acceptable?

I know what you mean about Grandma spoiling the grandbabies, Michelle! I'm guilty! LOL Not acceptable?
Has anyone here made their own price book to compare prices from store to store? Making a price book has help me to keep track of prices in each store. When I check the weekly fliers, I pick the store that's going to save me the most money based on the prices in the book. Not acceptable?
I just think menus are great, but I'm a bit of a control freak. I plan everything. Football is the best, however I'll be glad when this season is over. My team has hit a brick wall this year.

I too am a control freak that is probably why I am excited about finishing my AA and being able to get my Bachelor's in Accounting, so far everyone in my classes are control freaks too. As for teams my defense is falling through, I hope they pull it together though. Not acceptable?

Does it count if it's in your head? I have all the prices in my head when we head out to the store. Hubby and my mil just look at me and go here or somewhere else? if they find something they think is a good buy. LOL, I'm the walking spreadsheet of numbers... Not acceptable?

It counts, for sure! I can't remember that many numbers which is why I write stuff down. My daughter says I can't remember 20 pages of prices because I'm old and my brain is full! LOL - I keep reminding her that her birthdays are moving in the same direction as mine! Not acceptable?
