Cooking and Freezing
FamilyHost_Annabelle - November 07, 2008
My daughter's motto was "Cook once, eat twice." Since she's gone back to work, the motto has changed to "Cook once for the whole month, and freeze it." It has been a real time saver for her. It takes her a day to plan and shop, and one day to cook. Then that's the end of it for the entire month. Does anyone else cook for future use? Share any of your quantity cooking tips for those of us who are quantity challenged. (I'm going to take notes!)

The amount saved will depend on the cost of utilities in your area. We saved about $15 per month on electricity, about $15 on gas (dryer and hot water heater) and a whopping $50 on the cost of water (went down from $380 to $230 per quarter), for a total of $80 per month. We only spend about $10 per week, or $40 per month, at the laundromat. So we save $40 per month. That's almost $500 per year! So for us it's worth it.

Hmmm, I never thought about saving money by going to the laundromat! I need to sit down and figure out the costs and savings. Thank you for the tip :)

LOL Michelle! I'm with you on the laundry! Everyone here does his or her own laundry (I told them a long time ago that I don't wear 'em and I'm not washing 'em!) so we go to the laundromat. We're in and out in an hour, and we save enough money on our water bill to more than compensate us for pouring quarters into the machines. Now I have more time in the kitchen, cooking, which is what I'd rather be doing. ;-)

It has everything to do with cooking and freezing! Once we master the laundry (which I personally despise), think about all the time we'd have to create and invent new food recipes, new storage techniques and just enjoy our food! By the way, did I forget to mention that I love to EAT?

Update on the cooking and freezing: For 2 weeks now I have been cooking larger meals/meats and freezing them. My deep freezer is starting to look so nice, it gives me a calm feeling to know that I will have something in a snap when I do not feel like cooking :)

"Inventive"... that's a good word for it, Giggles! We probably could put our heads together, invent something like this laundry chute system and become rich and famous! Wouldn't that be neat? I'm not sure what that has to do with cooking and freezing, but it's fun to think about! :)

UHmm, when we become rich we will just hire someone to do our laundry or take it to the cleaners :D

LOL - what a GREAT invention that would be! If that one doesn't work out, maybe you could utilize the vacuum tube system the banks used for their drive-through tellers. Just put the clothing in the hopper, press "send" and watch them zoom to the washer through the transparent ducts! We'll find a solution for this one way or another! LOL
