Did you ever live in a McMansion?

I lived in one of those really big suburban homes in the outskirts of Houston. It was like 3500 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 2 baths ... and it just felt so cavernous and lonely. I hated it. When it was time to live somewhere in LA ... I bought a condo ... partly because it was all I could afford ... but also because I really like the idea of living in really efficient spaces. I got some books called "The Not So Big House" and it was really inspiring. They talked about lavishing your small space with architectural details and really useful, useable features ... so ... that's what I did. I really love my space .... I think I even have a picture of the kitchen handy ... this was when I was building it. I splurged on the stainless steel countertop and designed it custom to make the most of the relatively small space. It's working out really really well .... except when I make a Costco run!

We havent had that experience yet, living in a huge house! This is our first house we bought , its10 yrs. ago brand new! But when my husband and I meet we were living in seperate apartments with huge furniture. We knew our things would not fit well. So we ended up selling most of our furniture! I figured useing contemporary or modern style furniture works well in small spaces.
