Scrap a parade on one page!
TikiScrapper - August 13, 2008
I know, I know...you took about a 20 zillion photos of the parade and now you are agonizing over which ones to leave out because you can't possibly fit them all on one page. Never fear. I've got an idea for you. Accordian! No, not the instrument, the fold. Warning: this is a long post because I wanted to be clear, not because it's complicated...I've figured it all out so you don't have to.

You'll need to do a tiny bit of math before you start. Determine the width of your photos (usually 3.5" or 4") and add 1/2 inch - this is your panel width. Count how many photos you've got, now multiply that number by your panel length and add 1/2" - this is your overall width. Here's something to keep in mind: if you've got an even number of photos you'll end up with the back of your cardstock showing when the accordian is folded up, which you can treat with embellishments or journaling. If you have an odd number of photos your cover will show a photo. If you want to change this add one additinal panel width. Odd photos should be added from back to front, even should add from front to back and will have a blank panel glued to the page.
It's time to cut your cardstock (or other heavyweight paper) to 1/2" larger than the height of your photos. Next seam together several strips to make up your overall width {NOTE: You'll want to overlap the cardstock by about 1/4" and glue together so be sure to account for that extra width, how much extra width you need will depend upon how many pieces of cardstock you are using and how many photos you have}. Keep adding until you reach at least your overall width, trim off excess if you have any.
Now you'll begin folding. You'll want your folds to be the panel width {the width of your photo + 1/2 inch}. Next determine which side you'd like your accordian to move to. In my case I wanted it to open toward the right because the end of the parade was on my left and because I placed my accordian on the left of my page, hence I started folding from the left. Either side is fine, just figure it out now to save yourself aggrevation. Measure in from the side you've determined and fold & score in increments along the cardstock with your panel width.

Once you get everything folded it's time to stick down your photos. Make sure you've got them arranged in the order you want {I did mine in the order they march so when it unfolds it's as if you are seeing the entire parade at once}. Now just place each photo in the middle of the score lines. You can eyeball it or measure in 1/4" from the edges.

That's it! Long-winded, I know but I wanted to be sure you get all the benefits of this fun technique. I think I'll go print off some pictures and try using this same effect on my fireworks photos!!

Happy Scrapping!

What a brilliant idea!! I would never have thought of that, thanks so much for the idea. I'm going to Disneyland next month and I know there will be pics of parades and fireworks too!

Great idea! Most of my parade pictures ended up in a storage box not the photo album. Now I can include them. To get crisp folds, use a butter knife to score the paper along the edge of a metal ruler.

Here's another idea that I took from Jeanette R. Lynton's Imagine called Sideline Surprise (pg. 18).
In honor of Disney's Celebration, Disneyland started its new parade called "Celebrate: a Street Party". This parade is way different from all the other parades in the past. Instead of going straight through the parade route, it makes three stops one in Fantasyland, Main Street and at the entrance of the park. During the stops, the dancers preform and bring out people from the crowds to dance along. They pull my DD and BF out to dance along.
I titled the LO "Pumpin' Up the Party" which happens to be a Hannah Montana song that starts off the new parade. It took me a bit to get the sizing just right for the side and finding the photos that would fit. I tried to use the colors that matched in the photo of the lady. I used a Hannah Montana sticker for the title.
