this is actually how our family reunion started..we tried having it at a vfw or firehouse but the family was too big and had it at a state park but noone wanted to leave so we decided the next time to get together at a campground and camp so whoever wanted to stay and visit longer could..now we have a weekend family reunion at a campground every 2 years..some of us stay for the whole week, some only 1 night or just the day for the actual dinner..we even have family games and 50/50's ..its always fun trying to come up with who is going to host the next one, where its going to be held at and who is going to show..always fun!

It sounds like you've established a good tradition. Perhaps getting everyone together for that first one is the most difficult task. :) Not acceptable?
When our kids were smaller, vacation planning was a snap. Now that they are adults and have kids of their own, trying to get everyone together for a vacation is really difficult. But we're going to give it a shot this year. Not sure yet where, but we want to spend a few days all together.

important items are when do we go..where..and how much do we have to spend...we have family reunions every other years so that makes up for one of our vacations and tells us how much we will have to spend for the other or where and if we will go anywhere else that year we will go on the off years we try to go to different places than where we have been but we have gone to place we have been before..now that we have the grandkids we want them to experience the joy of the fun & exciting places Not acceptable?

My in-laws all keep paying lip service to the idea that they want to do a big family vacation with everyone in the same place. But with children and families on different routines we keep putting it off until "next year". I think we just all want to make sure that our kids are flexible enough to go with the flow.

I've accepted that it will be really difficult to get everyone together. I'm taking the position that I'm going to go on vacation, and if they can join me, wonderful, and if not, its their loss. The problem is that "next year" never comes. There will always be someone who can't go. Not acceptable?
Thanks! I suppose what we are trying to do is a multi-family vacation experience. Each of my kids now have their "own" family...but I think that it will prove beneficial if we all make the effort.

This is very true. When I was growing up we used to go camping every year with my cousins and Aunt and Uncle and Grandma. We haven't done it in 20 years. Everyone is just so busy. Good luck with getting everyone together.

Asking who will be involved will help. If you have babies or really young children, you'll need a place you can take them. Attending the Indy 500 race with babies is probably not a recipe for a great time. If everyone going is an adult, you might want to plan something that is really relaxing with an emphasis on sharing meals and just talking rather than playing physical games and being entertained. We usually plan a big trip each year to one of the Disney parks, but this year we're taking the year off. We're not sure what we're going to do yet. Not acceptable?
