Fun Stops
FamilyHost_Tom - July 03, 2009
Stopping along the way to enjoy fun with the family can make a vacation a great experience. Do you plan fun stops along the way, or do you focus on having all your fun at your destination? Let's share what kind of fun stops we've taken and what we look for when it comes to stopping for a bit of fun.

We'd plan to stop at Water Parks, or at lakes to do a few hours of fishing as long as the trip wasn't too long. If we had a 10 hour drive, we didn't make fun stops. Otherwise, we'd try to do something the kids really enjoyed.

For the most part, we just focus on getting to the destination. Every now and then we'll stop if we know there's something particularly interesting coming up.

I remember when I was little and we'd take road trips to visit family in the Midwest, we'd stop at a restaurant called Rax. From what I remember, it was sort of a dressed-up Wendy's. But the big thing was that it had a giant all-you-can eat salad bar. My parents would stop there just because it would give us some free time to roam around and try all the different things on the bar.

Sometime in the 70's, buffets and salad bars began to become popular. My very favorite all time salar bar was at a place called Mollie Murphy's house of fine repute. They had a ferrari and the engine compartment was where the salad bar was. Very cool!
