Photos and mp3 Players
FamilyHost_Cheryl - February 05, 2009
I finally entered the 21st century musically. A couple of days ago I broke down and bought a mp3 player so that I could take music with me on walks without anything clunky on me. I see that it can store photos on it. I never knew they did that. Do those of you that have one of these store photos on it and does it take up a lot of space to store a few family photos? Also, how easy is it to transfer them onto the player? I have to admit that my current plan is to bribe a son to set the whole thing up and enter music and pictures into it, but if it is easy enough I may give it a try on my own.

I have an iphone, and I have a couple of hundred pictures on it. Like a lot of cell phones, its also a camera, but its only 2.0megapixels so the resolution isn't great. Your MP3 player will be a 1GB, 2BG, 4BG or larger. If its a 1GB player, you should probably put no more than 100 photos on it just to be sure you have enough memory for music. Otherwise, you can store lots of photos.
To transfer music and graphics, you'll connect your MP3 player to your computer via a USB connection. The MP3 player will automatically integrate with your computers operating system, and a screen will pop up giving you several options. You will want to open the folder. inside that folder is probably another folder entitled "DCIM" or something like that. Open that folder and search any other folders you find there. One will probably say "graphics" one "music" etc. Open the folder on your computer where your pictures or music files are. Click on the file and drag it to the folder for your MP3. it will automatically copy. It's not difficult. Think of how impressed your son will be if you do it without him, and then nonchalantly mention that you updated your player with graphics and tunes. :)

Thank you for the lesson BroncosDad. I think it'd be quite the surprise to my son if I did this myself. Okay, it sounds easy enough to give this a try and only call for his help if I get stuck. My player is a 4 GB, so it's nice to know I can fit quite a few pics on it along with the music.

Do you totally love your iphone? My sister has one and loves hers, but then again she loves everything Mac makes.

I was on Verizon plan until last week. It is great to keep you on the cutting edge of technology since they have the latest in equipment and you get a great discount every two years if you renew your contract. Almost two years ago I got the VX9400 from LG which stores video too and uses a memory card. I was surprised when I went to see Iron Man last year and saw Robert Downey Jr using my phone in the movie. Now I'm on MetroPCS but I was able to flash my phone and stay with it. I just checked in Amazon and they had the phone advertised at $499 and I got it for $70 when I renew for 2 more years with Verizon.

Nice looking phone D-Superdad. How do you find playing music and storing/taking photos affects the battery on it?

I have never had it affect it. I have taken photos and video, specially videos and never had the phone die on me. Once in Walt Disney World the High School Musical Parade selected my daughter to dance with them and I only had my phone in hand, it saved the day, I could take video of her dancing with the dancers and other kids.

Now I made a research yesterday and the phone to have is the Samsung Omnia, the camera in it is 5 megapixels and the upcoming Omnia HD will have a better resolution video camera; enough so you can replace your video camera and still camera with your phone. Its also a smartphone with an operating system and touchscreen like the iphone. In fact the regular Omnia which Verizon started offering for $99 with a two year contract last week its rated better than the iphone in many reviews. I might switch back to Verizon once the Omnia HD comes out just to get a good deal on this phone which otherwise costs over $500.

Thanks for the information on the Omnia, D-Superdad. I'm going to have to check into it. It's hard to imagine being able to replace my digital camera and video camera with a phone and so seeing it in action will be fun.

Yes, I really do like having my iphone. What is exciting is the potentiality. Apple has made it an open source code item, meaning there are a lot of people who can create and come up with applications. They submit those applications to the Apple Store, and if Apple approves, puts them in their store on itunes. Some are free, some have a small or nominal charge. Games, utilities, personal apps, there is no end to the possibilities.
I think that the iphone concept, the all-in-one controller that we keep with us, is being realized.
