President Obama and his family are deciding on what kind of dog to get to take with them to the White House. If it were your choice, what kind of puppy would you choose?

President Bush's current pet, Barney, is adorable. I also liked the other President Bush's dog Millie. I remember the Clintons' Socks the cat was everywhere for a while.

[....] Nixon had Checkers, the Cocker Spaniel. Who were some of the other White House dogs? Anyone remember?

That would make sense, a fish would be easy to take care of. Is there a presidential fish? :) Who knows. They've stated that they want to get a dog, though.

That would make Boston happy! A terrier would be a good choice. I understand that one of the girls has certain allergies that might come into play.

Well if one of them has allergies, then maybe a pet isn't such a good idea. Maybe get them a fish lol.

I would choose a Boston Terrier, but that is just because I have one and I love him to pieces. They aren't too big or too small, they are mild tempered, and are easy maintenance.

I think that at that level of politics, everything is scrutinized. I'm sure that advisors have researched the issue and will come up with the "right" pet. I wish they'd just go to the Humane Society and get a regular mixed breed dog. You know, that might be the most "American" pet of all!

Since they have younger kids, I'd imagine something that isn't too aggressive (Let's eliminate pit bulls and Akita types) or too big (do away with Great Danes and irish Greyhounds) I wonder if advisors will be involved or if they leave it up to the kids. Do you think they are wanting a PC Pet? Is there such a thing? I would think that a Beagle, Basset Hound, or Cocker Spaniel would be a good fit. I've avoid something that is small and yappy all the time. Nixon had Checkers, the Cocker Spaniel. Who were some of the other White House dogs? Anyone remember?
