I'm Heather...I am a the Mom of one daughter who is two years old. I was going through the groups and didn't see one for families with one child so I decided to see if I'm the only one with just one!!

Hi Heather, My name is Maria - and I've got an only child, too. He's SOOOOO only. He's the only grandchild on both sides - and he just turned 11. And while he might get a cousin soon if his aunt's pregnancy goes through okay, it doesn't look like he's ever gonna get any actualy brothers or sisters. I'm 42 and done (single and staying that way).

I often wish I could have had another one or two. But there it is. It seems that he's turning out okay, but it took him a while to adjust to other kids at school. They just weren't grown up enough for him!

Thanks for starting this group, because I think about this issue a lot.

Hi Maria. Welcome to the group. I didn't actually think anyone would join...lol. I have never done anything like this...started a group...so bear with me while I figure this out! My daughter is also the only grandchild on both sides and my husband and I are both only children. I can completely understand what you son is feeling about the kids not being grown up enough..haha. When I was growing up I always preferred to hang out with the adults instead of the kids....My Mom used to have to push me to go be with the kids. I can truly say that I loved being an only.

My husband and I are "in negotiations" about having another..lol. He is extremely happy with the way things are right now. Don't get me wrong.....I am totally in love with my life but sometimes I get this twinge like my biological clock kicking me....haha and start thinking about having another. My life is great now...my daughter is this amazing little person....she is loving...caring..funny and very well behaved..so we will see what happens. I do know that whether she has a sibling or not she will be fine. Looking forward to getting to know you!

Hello! I'm Desirae. My daughter is 9 (soon to be 10 in a week) and she is an only child. She has the same issues about wanting to be around adults more than other kids. She comes home from school absolutly baffled about what kids do to eachother. I worry a lot that she doesn't fit in well because of this (mom guilt). She is big on the whole "It's not fair" thing when the kids all play together - LOL. People love to be around her, they always say "she's so polite and well mannered" so I guess that's a big bonus point for the only child angle! I also feel the "twinges" about more children but alas the hubby does not :) Sometimes I feel a little awkward around the other school families because someone always says "you have just one?" What else can you say but "yep"

Hi Desirae and welcome to the group. Sadie is only two but she is also very polite. She usually always says please and thank you. People tell me she is a ray of sunshine and I have to agree..lol. I also understand the "You have just one" question...or the "oh..you only have one" ...or...."noooo, you can't just have one, you have to give her a brother/sister". These comments are mostly all made by complete strangers. Sometimes it annoys me when people say things like that but ya know what are ya gonna do. Sometimes I say things like...Yes, we like to focus all of our attention on just one...lol. My hubby is also not feeling the "twinge" of wanting another baby. I honestly don't know what will happen. Feel free to post any questions or comments on the board.

Hi. I am Carole. Mother of one. Turk is about to be five in less than 2 weeks. We have toyed with the idea of having another child but all logic says it is a bad idea. Turk is a wonderful little boy. He is social and well behaved (most of the time) and so creative. I am worried that having another will just take away from the oppritunites we can give him. Any way, thanks for making a group for us!
