Who went to their State Fair this summer? What was your favorite activity? How about the food? What was new this year?

We haven't gone to the fair yet. Every year we've gone to the Topsfield Fair (http://www.topsfieldfair.org/) in Topsfield, MA, and we'll be going again this year. It's America's oldest agricultural fair. We love the outdoor concerts. A couple of years ago we saw America (the "Horse with no Name" guys) - they were great! My favorite food there is fried dough with cinnamon and sugar and vegetable tempurah - all the stuff that's really good for you! LOL

Here in Minnesota, the State Fair serves up just about any kind of food you can think of, but serves it on a stick. I hear there is chocolate-covered bacon on a stick this year. Yuck! Not sure I'd like the pickle juice popsicles either.

We went to the fair this year and had a great time. I always make my way for the Turkey legs first. I wait all year and nothing is going to stop me lol. Plus seeing my youngest eat one for the first time was great. Here is a picture of us on one of the rides :)

FamilyHost_Cheryl, I agree with you about those two popsicle choices! However, how about a fried oreo kabob? Last time we were at the fair my dad had one of those and hasn't stopped talking about it. He wanted to get mom one of those frying machines for her birthday so she'd make some for him! LOL

They also had fried twinkies on a stick. I imagine they must have been delish, but I was too scared to try one after having already had fried dough and tempura!

So the Oreo kabob was battered and deep fried? It's hard to picture that tasting good. I had heard of deep-fried candy bars before and even that did not sound appealing to me.

Apparently people really like it. The line was enormous! They take Oreos, dip them in pancake batter, and drop them into hot oil to let them get crispy. Then they drain them, stick three of them on a skewer and there you have it! They do the same thing with Twinkies as well, and the line was just as long. That's why I had tempura - no one was in the veggie line! LOL
