Everyone ready to start back up with school?
soccerimpmom - August 09, 2008
We definitely like our break during the summer, but I am a fairly traditional teacher to my 3rd grade son so when it is school time for the neighborhood kids it is also school time for him. I love the beginning of the year and the process of immersing ourselves into the flow of school. We use a virtual academy for our curriculum and it has worked so well for us. I'm looking forward to getting to know more homeschool families here :).

I am a more relaxed home-schooler...especially since my kids aren't school age yet. But we have looked more in to the whole Unschooling idea. I guess with that, there wouldn't be much back to school time...lol. Honestly, even if we do more traditional schooling, I prefer the idea of year round school. Three months is a long time to forget all the stuff they learned the previous year...lol.

We are doing our fist co-op this year so we pretty much have to go with their schedule. I'm excited about it thought because my girls are in high school and need a little more of a challenge

I'm going start my daughter on her pre-k curriculum at the end of the summer. We're going to use an umbrella school for the curriculum, but I think I'm going to customize the curriculum and schedule a bit for her. Mostly I think I'll stick with the traditional start and end dates, but I'll also try to keep activities going through the summer.

We started using the Sonlight Curriculum this year for my 1st greader, so far so good. It has a lot of good literature that helps open up communication.
My Kindergartner is doing great with her phonics using Hooked on Phonics. How is everyone doing mid-year? Share you updates! :)

We are using Calvert for my 1st and 8th grader. We use it our own way and love it. We've been schooling at home a bit more during these colder months, we homeschool year round to allow time for all the activities that come up.
My first grader used Starfall and HeadSprouts while she she learned to read, we love the phonics approach also. We are also working a lot on place value to make sure she really gets the concept down.

I'm about to start pre-K with my daughter in a few weeks. I'm using the Calvert curriculum and I've already looked through the lesson manual at the first few lessons and I'm really excited, also we've already read a few stories out of the book.

Here we go again. Sign up for co-op classes next Friday. First faculty meeting next Saturday. And then it's off to the races. Our public schools start on the 12th. I will start the next week. What gets overwhelming to me is our other activiteis. Dance, soccer and track with some overlapping on the same days. And if we participate in the Nutcracker this year it may be too much. But I kind of like the craziness.

This is our first year homeschooling. We started a little bit over the summer, then took some time off and started back up the beginning of August. Our plan is to do year-round, but be very flexible. My husband has a rotating day off so we have the ability to take off on long weekends, which he's really liking.

We're doing some traditional and some unschooling. Our oldest boys were so far behind their contemporaries in math that it's been our major focus. We're using KONOS on the sidelines right now and I really like it.

Hi Everyone,
Since we homeschool year round we are still going strong, but we moved from Baltimore, MD to Clemmons, NC this August and our lives have changed a bit. We're finding other homeschoolers in the area and new activities, we're adding golf to our schedule, my son is Skype-ing with his writing tutor back in Maryland, and we have a ton of stuff we want to go see around the area.
