Has anyone made their own holiday cards? What did you do? Would you do it again?

The year my granddaughter was born we made Rudolph greeting cards using her little hands and feet. Rudolph's head was her footprint of brown paint on white card stock and her hands were the antlers. Then we used a red dot sticker (the kinds you use at tag sales) for the nose and glued two big jiggle eyes to the head. We still have ours and tuck it among the tree branches each year.

Thumbprint characters are a great way to decorate cards. Use white paint and your thumb, pointer and pinkie prints to make snowmen. Use brown paint and your thumbprint to the side (body) and your pointer print on top(head) to make a reindeer just add a red dot nose, black line legs and black line antlers. Use green paint and make a ring of thumbprints for a wreathe and add a red bow made out of ribbon. Thumbprints characters are great for older kids with bigger hands. We did this to decorate Christmas plates at the pottery studio too! They turn out really cute!

Thank you, AnnabelleMcB. Making it was a lot of fun. The second part to the story is that the following year, when she was 16 months old, we did something similar, but instead of a reindeer, we made green wreaths out of her hands and feet. Doing the hands was not a problem. But when we asked her to stand on the tray coated with a very thin layer of green paint, she did, and then she bolted and ran all over the house!

What a great idea! My granddaughter is fifteen now and wants to make personalized crafty stuff for her parents. This idea is perfect! She can make matching plates and gift cards!

We did this too, though we used felt for the hand prints and shoeprint....and we glued pom poms for the nose. We sent these to my in-laws and my ex-husband as a present too....they seemed to enjoy it.

My daughter reminded me that when she and her sister were little, we used to press flowers and used the petals and leaves to adorn cards we'd send to my eldest aunt. We also used scraps of lace glued to the edge of the card for an added embellishment. She loved them. I bet she still has all of them.
