Christmas in July!
FamilyHost_Annabelle - July 06, 2009
I know... you think I'm jumping the gun, right? It's really hard to picture anything that has to do with Christmas when it's warm and balmy outside and we're more concerned with packing a picnic than unpacking the tree ornaments. However, this is when we crafters start thinking about what to make for holiday gift giving and decorating.

Yesterday I took out the Christmas music and dug through my knitting books to see what I was going to choose as this year's gift. I found a cute pattern for knitted bell ornaments, which will work up quickly and easily. I also found a crocheted pattern for a lace table runner which I will give to the hostess of our Christmas family gathering.

Now that your mind is in holiday gear, what are you making for holiday gift giving? What decorations will you be creating for the season? Share you ideas here!

Thank you :) My daughter picked out the yarn. It's 100% cotton, very easy to work with and it matches the colors in her winter coat. Whenever I'm just sitting watching TV, she starts to give me the business. "Ma, how's my scarf doing?" That's because I started it last year then put it away for a bit.

I love to knit too but I've only ever made scarves, hats and mittens. I think I want to try and make something a little more difficult. I'm a little bummed out because my favorite yarn store closed, now I'm on the search for a new one. I have a few books to get some ideas and inspiration so we'll see what I come up with. Yarn should be a little cheaper this time of year....I hope.

I know what you mean about starting now. My husband was giving me a hard time for making a yoyo snowman in July!

That must be adorable, snlhughes! If you have a chance to take a picture, we'd love to see it. :)

I've started some projects too. I never have time in the fall and winter when things get hectic, so I've started making necklaces and little gift boxes for all the teacher gifts and other people that I always want to give a little something to. I collected a lot of projects I saw online last holiday season and bookmarked them. Now I'm going through and figuring out what I can actually get done by December.

My sister makes jewelry. She just made me a purple bracelet and earrings to go with the outfit I'm wearing for a wedding tomorrow.
