I did not know that colds, flu, most sore throats, and bronchitis are caused by viruses and that antibiotics do not help fight viruses! It makes me wonder why my doctor prescribes them when I have bronchitis and if this is one of the reasons why so many people now have a antibiotic resistance! Do you head to your doctor at the first sign of illness and just take what the doctor prescribes? Not acceptable?
It depends on the symptoms .. just a sore throat, no. If a fever is very high or lasts too long yes. Just a cold, no. A cough that sounds real bad yes! So it so depends on how bad it is Not acceptable?

I'm not big on running to the doctor for every little problem. I'm more of a let it run it's course and if I feel concerned about something I'll call the doc. My friend called me today and told me she was keeping her daughter home to take her to the doc for congestion and a runny nose. She also tends to start giving her meds at the first sign of anything. Many people don't realize that meds are just to relieve the symptoms not cure. We don't allow our bodies the chance to build up immunity against many of these common viruses. It's also important to ask questions at the doctor and not just take whatever they prescribe. A little fresh air works wonders around here :-) Not acceptable?

You know my mom is the same way you are! I on the other hand tend to get out the medicine at the first sign of illness :( Not acceptable?
One of my kids is allergic to a number of antibiotics, so we avoid using antibiotics unless it really is a necessity as we do not want him to become allergic to the ones he still can use and we've heard that each time he takes them there is a greater chance of a reaction, even if there had never been one before. He did recently have to take them for pneumonia and it was not easy to find one that would work with his asthma medication and not cause a liklihood of tendon rupture. Two more days and he'll be finished with the round of antibiotics. It is amazing how much better he looks, feels and sounds after having taken them. Not acceptable?

I totally understand your concern! I have been there myself with my kids! I am glad that your son is feeling better already! Not acceptable?
We'd rather wait it out and not take antibiotics at the first sign of illness. Sammy's had antibiotics only once in his life, for strep, which was unavoidable. Not acceptable?

That is so far the only time my kids have taken an antibiotic! Only bad thing is, they usually have it once or twice a year! I guess twins do share everything! Not acceptable?
