Haunted Houses
kayceecat - September 07, 2008
Are there haunted houses, put up for Halloween, where you live? We have a few around here and they are really a lot of fun to go through.

A great place for Halloween themed foods is Matha Stewart: http://www.marthastewart.com/holidays --very kid friendly, easy, and always look great. Food and drinks (adult and kid friendly ones): http://www.marthastewart.com/photogallery/creepy-treats

We ARE the haunted house in our neighborhood. this will be our 5th year setting up the "Mitchell Cemetery", but we also do the inside of the house for our party. We make a ton of our own props and use the Pepper's Ghost effect (like in the haunted mansion) alot. It is always a hit. We do family friendly version with our scares and prefer spooky ghosts and lots of cobwebs to blood and gore. We wrote our first home haunt book this year, How to Haunt Your House and plan a second one for next year. If anyone wanted to see our videos of how we decorated the past five years, please visit our website: www.howtohauntyourhouse.com under the Crypt section. We'd love to hear from fellow home haunters.

Atrox is too much for me! But I love Sloss Furnace any time of the day! Historical significance is my thing. If you want a few more "real" haunts try the Pinson Methodist Church. A female ghost is seen quite regularly sweeping the graves at night. My grandmother used to work at The Redmont Hotel downtown and she saw the dead manager walking the halls checking the guest room doors on the upper floors. She said she saw him a lot and he was still doing his job. My husband and I rented a house in Center Point after we were married and it was haunted by an old woman. I saw her once but you could always feel her presence. My mother's uncle haunted his house in Trussville after he died. It was being renovated and he would stand around and watch the carpenters as they worked. They weren't scared of him so the just kept going. The new owners didn't see him after the work was completed. Turns out he was hiding quite a few skeletons in his closets. We are going to WDW for Halloween and I can't wait for the Haunted Mansion and the Headless Horseman Carriage Ride!

I'll say we do! Too many to choose from actually. The only way you can go to them all is to start as soon as they open. LOL Let's see....we have.... The Haunted Farm with a haunted hay ride and a corn maze. www.halloweenonthefarm.com The Jay Cee's (sp?) Haunted House just a mile or two away. The Haunting in an old warehouse www.thehaunted.net The Judgement House is run by one of the local churches Atrox Factory is a big one that is vastly popular. www.atroxfactory.com The Haunted Maze is a haunted corn maze. Barns of Horror is another haunted farm Evil House of Horror www.geocities.com/v2vdevilhouseofhorror/index Fright Factory is supposed to be back up this year. They didn't open last year. Graystone Manor is a truly twisted place. www.graystonemanor.net The Haunted Chicken House - yes, a haunted chicken house. LOL Haunted House of Pain www.hauntedhouseofpain.com The Haunted Woods of Death The Maze of Terror www.titusvfd.com Mulberry River Farms Fright Fest Spooktrail www.spooktrail.com The Haunted Train Depot and the most popular one is Sloss Fright Furnace. It's really, really, really creepy. They say it's really haunted. *shiver* It was even featured on Scariest Places on Earth, and CBS news. Almost every year someone sees something that's not part of the show. My friends and I saw a man in overalls walk through a wall and commented on what a great effect it was to one of the operators. He just looked at us kind of funny and said that it wasn't part of the show and that Slag must be up to no good again. We were ready to leave after that. You really should check it out, if you can. It's not just a haunted house, they have a 3D maze, road kill cafe, stages of Death, horror movie marathon, and tons of other stuff as well. Here's their website if anyone wants to check it out. www.frightfurnace.com Be sure to check out the haunted history, too, they have film of the machines moving by themselves and other spooky things. We've only gone to all of them one season. Usually we stick to the closest ones which are Halloween on the farm, The Haunting, Atrox Factory, Judgement House, Jay Cee's, and Sloss Fright Furnace. Kailey's giving me a fit this year, wanting to go, but the age restrictions are 12 and above on most and 18 and above on some of the others. She's going to have to be happy with the Pumpkin Patch for now.

Where I live there are lots of different things to do this time of year, one of the most popular things (well I think it is the most popular) is High Tide Church Hay Maze. They only do it on Halloween and each child gets a nice size bag of candy, they perform a silly live show, serve free hot dogs, pop corn and drinks. We always have a blast!!!
