Using VOC paints
FamilyHost_Kristina - August 29, 2009
Has anyone begun repainting their houses using a VOC (volatile organic compound) paint?
Repainting at least one room using low VOC paint, which does not release harmful toxins into the air as conventional paint does can help reduce your carbon footprint.

I had never heard of this kind of paint before you told us about it. Does it have any kind of an odor? My son's asthma reacts to the smell of paint and every time we paint downstairs he has to sleep upstairs while we air out the odor.

What it was meant to say was VOC low or free paints. Paints and finishes release low level toxic emissions into the air for years after application. So it is beneficial not only for the earth but your family's health to begin using VOC free or low paints.

I'm wondering about comparisons in quality, longevity, and cost with regular latex paints.

Is that like the Arm & Hammer paint I'm seeing advertised on television? It seems like a really intriguing idea but I do have to wonder how it would wear long-term.

It is said to have the same longevity without most of the ill effects that tradition home paints have.
