Not Quite So Green
FamilyHost_Cheryl - 3 weeks ago
Okay, here is my admission of not being so green these past couple of weeks. I've been down with the flu and then one of my kids got it and that developed into pneumonia. When I got sick I ditched the hand towels in the bathroom and instead put rolls of paper towels for people to wipe their hands on and dispose of. I did pick up ones that were made with partially recycled materials, but I still feel kinda guilty about using paper towels. That guilt does not outweigh my wanting to keep the family healthy as all kinds of illnesses are out this season. Have you changed out your hand towels or anything else this season? Any products you especially recommend?

FamilyHost_Cheryl, so sorry to hear that you and your family were ill. I had to agree about using disposable towels. Unless you own 50 hand towels (which I think is one washer load), then using disposables is the best thing to use to assure you're not going to be sharing germs. When I use paper towels for drying hands, I usually get the kind that can tear easily into half sheets (I think one brand has 'select a size'). Good luck and feel better!

Thanks Mom2SammyW. I will look for the 'select a size' paper towels. I, too, do not have a ton of hand towels and with 5 of us in the family, it'd take a lot of towels to keep up and then it'd be running the washer and dryer for an extra load every day.

I've replaced my softsoap with the waterless anti-bacterial gel. You don't use towels or paper towels to wipe. It's different to adjust to, but using an anti-bacterial is good, and you cut the cost of paper towels as well as the usage. Just a thought! hope the flu is gone from your house.

It does make sense to use the anti-bacterial gel during the flu season, but does it work as well as (or maybe better than) washing with soap and water? Also, how drying is it to the skin. I know it must have alcohol of some kind in it to make it dry so quickly. My husband has such dry hands and one son has eczema, so I thought I better ask before replacing what we have.
