reading incentives

Does your child's school or any local businesses do a reading incentive program where children get credit for the books they read and earn rewards such as free ice cream etc.?

When my son, Kyle was in 1st grade they did have an incentive program. After reading so many books the parents had to mark them off with a sticker. Once that section was full the student had to turn it in to the teacher. The teacher would then sign it off and it would be for a Braum's ice cream sundae, single dip ice cream cone, and something else I could not remember. This went on throughout the whole year. My son Kyle, is in second grade and there is no reading incentive that I know of, that he has told me about. Kris (jacburn)

The elementary school has an AR (accelerated reader) program they do in school throughout the year for grades 1-5.

But the local university does a reading incentive program through school vacations and summer break where children are given cards to fill out the set amount of books they read and turn them in when school is back in session. They get free tickets to the womans basket ball games at the college, and free ice cream.
