Ellen on Idol
FamilyHost_Meredith - September 13, 2009
Last week, "American Idol" announced it had found someone to fill the third chair at the judges' table. Comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres will be filling the spot vacated by Paula Abdul.

So what do you think? If you're a regular Idol watcher, are you excited about this new personality? If you aren't a regular, will this news get you to tune in?

If I were a regular, I'd stop being one. Degeneres as a talent judge of musicians? I won't be watching anytime soon. Just MHO.

Did you feel that Paula had better information to add?

I like Ellen and am interested to see how she works in the Idol format. I hope she doesn't fall into too sweet or basic jokes/commentary. I think she could bring a very unique perspective to the show. Clearly she loves music so being able to address the performances from the perspective from a potential fan, as opposed to a music industry insider, could be very enlightening.

I like Ellen, I just do not think this is the proper venue for her, she's a comedian right? how is that relevant to music??

Ellen has been in front of an audience for a long time and knows how to appeal to a wide range of audience members, so she'll be able to give sound feedback to the contestants about how to capture the crowd. I've only watched one season of American Idol because it just didn't interest me that much, but now that Ellen is going to be part of the show, I will most likely tune in.

I agree. It'll be interesting to see how their ratings do at the start of the season... AND if they stay high all season long.
