Spring Cleaning in August
FamilyHost_Cheryl - August 12, 2009
I've decided to clean this house top to bottom, one room every weekday, until it sparkles. It's hot out and I have the air-conditioning on, so I figure now's the time to get it in order before the chaos of school ensues. It seems that my organizing and cleaning go somewhat out the door during the fall sports season. Between soccer and football (same child) we're on the run a lot and so starting out with things in order before school starts, and the papers associated with it start flowing in, majorly appeals to me. The tricky part is keeping it up, but we'll cross that bridge as we go.

Does the return of the school year bring you more organizing and cleaning peace or does it make things harder for you?

Oh, it makes it easier for me once they are back to school. At least when I clean my house it will stay clean for at least a few hours longer :D

I'm so glad to see this title today--I just started doing the same thing, mostly because I never did spring cleaning in the spring and now that we've been home for days because of thunderstorms, the dirt is starting to bug me. My husband thought I was nuts for starting it now, mostly because the kids are still home for a few weeks.

I'm trying to get myself back on a cleaning routine so we can pave the way for school to start. I'm also trying to figure out my Sept calendar (way ahead of time) and stock up on lunch foods and snacks to get through those first hectic weeks of school.

Even though our kids are different ages, it seems that we are leading parallel lives right now. I am doing exactly what you're doing, right down to the snacks to give my youngest energy for his soccer and football practices. I just want it all to be routine again, and feel ahead of the game, before school starts.

You can get your house to stay clean for a few hours? I can't even manage that when the kids and hubby aren't home. The dog manages to throw his fur (and toys) all over the floor. It is like the laundry, I never quite see the bottom of the hamper for more than 5 minutes.

LOL, usually it stays clean for as long as the kids are at work or over at friends! Once they are home, all bets are off :::sigh:::

I with you, my house never stays clean for long with 2 black labs and a chiuaua, there is always dog hair and dog toys on the floor. But I am looking foward to only tripping over dog toys instead of the hundreds of matchbox cars that are usually scattered in every room of the house.

With three boys I know those Matchbox years well. They hurt when you accidentally step on them with bare feet.

I have a son that has every toy he has every recived.(he's 10) He knows every toy and knows when it is gone. I cant take it any more. I need ideas on how to get rid of the stuff but not hurt his feeling with it. He does have a little ADD and gets upset with stuff easy.

Would taking pictures of the toys and putting them into an album with him work? You could make the album together and then he'd get to look back at them any time that he wanted to.
