Should I be embarrassed for being organized?
FamilyHost_Cheryl - June 06, 2009
I actually had someone say to me the other day, "Are you one of those organized people? I hate those kind of people." I was so taken aback that I did not know how to respond. I finally muttered that I am more organized at work than in my house, thinking that should shut the person up. Since when should it be embarrassing to admit to being organized? I am no Martha Stewart, or June Cleaver, but I do strive to be organized, because I find it much more relaxing to not be searching for things at the last moment. I am so not a last moment type of person. Have you ever encountered this kind of negativity about organization? How would you have responded in my situation?

Oh goodness, I think that was downright mean! I would have just laughed and said that it is hard work to be perfect :D
Oh yes, my neighbors think I have a disorder but I just laugh about it! I am like you, in no way am I Martha Stewart but I do like to know where things are.

I like your "It's hard work to be perfect." line. I wish I had thought of that when put on the spot. I'll keep that line in my pocket in case there is ever a next time.

All of us handle things differently. Being organized is not a negative, its a positive. Those who are disorganized say ugly things because they recognize that they themselves are lacking. They don't get things done on time. They are late with things. They let some important tasks slide. So, ignore the criticism and feel good about knowing what to do and when to have it done by.

Oh, I would've laughed it off and said that it's just part of my personality. I think it's hard for dis/unorganized people because they either can't find a way to get organized or really don't understand why people put such a value on it.

It was an inconsiderate thing to say but hopefully they just didn't realize the tone they were projecting.

I wish, I was "one of those organized people!!" That is nothing to be embarasses of. I could use some good organizational tips, for a family with 3 kids.

You've come to the right place for organizational tips, vsantoyo. The members of this group share some great advice and can make you chuckle just when the house seems overwhelming.
