Project #2 - Cupboards and Drawers
FamilyHost_Cheryl - January 11, 2009
We have a request to get those pots and pans under control and so we're tackling it as this week's project. For five days this week (less if you need to) clean out one cupboard and one drawer per day. A good wiping down and getting rid of what you don't use in them might just make us want to spend more time in the kitchen. Okay, so maybe we won't want to spend more time in the kitchen, but we will enjoy the sparkling results of our work. As always, share your tips with us. This week, tips on how to store the pots and pans, and all those plastics, will be especially helpful.

Oh boy, guess I'll get started tomorrow also. Can't wait for those storage tips or the fairy if she's available, LOL! I think I'm gonna start with my junk drawer since it's the worst.

I'm been thinking alot about this topic. I think I may have an idea. My cupboards are long. They go wayyyyyy back to the wall. In order to reach anything I have to 'crawl" inside. We have some things stored under the kitchen sink that we don't use on a weekly basis. I think I'm going to put those in the back of the cupboard. We won't even be looking for them until May. Now, I have next to no drawers. There are exactly 4. They aren't very deep in either direction. I've been keeping my cooking utensils in a rubbermaid container (shoebox size) and it makes me batty. I was just thinking about putting some of the utensils like gravy ladles in the roasting pans that I only use for certain dinners. That way when I am cooking those meals the utensils are in the roaster and I dont have to look for them! Wonder if it will really work? I'll let you know!!!

That's a good idea. I have the same problem with drawers. I was thinking of hanging some of the items I use everyday on the wall somehow. I just have to figure out how to make it look nice!

I also was thinking about hanging utencils on the wall. I've seen magnetic strips you can hang on the walls and they hang that way. My only problem is I use wooden utencils too. Maybe I'll find a nice utencil holder and put it next to the stove. I'll put my frequently used utencils there and the others can go in the drawer. I have lots of drawers I just need to organize them better. Has anyone figured out a solution for the plastic containers and tops? Oh, I've attached a before picture of my first drawer. Let's hope I can post an after picture before day's end :-)

As for the plastic containers and tops, I finally found a solution that works for me. I stopped putting them on the highest shelf since I am very short and don't like the hassle of the stool. At that point I was just throwing them up in there. I put them on the middle shelf and that way I can reach them fine. I took a plastic organizing container from the dollar store about the size of a shoe box and put all the lids in that. I stacked the containers in small stacks that i can pull out with out them falling on me. Now when I need to use them I can pull out my shoe box of lids and everything stays nice and neat.
