Organizing Books
FamilyHost_Cheryl - June 26, 2009
I inherited quite a few books recently and it's time to get them out of the boxes and onto shelves. Do you have a specific way that you organize your books: Alphabetical by author, by genre, by size, or some other way? I have quite a few mysteries, craft books, and I think it's time some of my lesser used cookbooks move out of the kitchen as not all my cookbooks fit into the cupboard I have set aside for them. What do you do with your books?

I've tried a bunch of theories because I love books but eventually settled on the alphabetical by author. It seemed like I could never remember which system I was using and would end up getting confused. LOL

I'm looking for a third bookcase, since I have tons of books. I tend to group them in general by topic. For instance, I love biographies and histories about the US Presidency, and I have those arranged chronologically beginning with Washington and moving up through the modern presidency. I have four shelves devoted to reference books, commentaries, church fathers, that kind of thing. I have a number of boxes of books in the garage just waiting for the new bookcase.

I have a shelf just for my books and usually store the less often used ones on the very top shelf. I organize them by genre and then by size...weird I know lol.
