Traditionally, a smoothie is a blended treat made from fresh fruit, and can include add-ins such as frozen yogurt. They became available in the 1960's and have enjoyed a new resurgence of popularity in recent years.

This is our family favorite and makes 2 servings.

1 cup strawberries
1 banana
8 oz. strawberry/banana yogurt
four ice cubes

Put ingredients in blender or smoothie maker, ***PUT ON THE COVER*** (that was for my husband) and pulse until ingredients are smooth. Drink immediately.

Here's another smoothie idea from my granddaughter. She made a smoothie using milk, banana and peanut butter and called it an Elvis Special after Elvis Presley, who liked peanut butter and banana sandwiches. I asked what she'd call it if she took out the peanut butter (I'm not a peanut butter fan). She said, "Monkey Juice!" LOL

Yesterday a neighbor who was on her way to vacation in Bermuda stopped by the house with all her perishables. Among the bounty, I found a mango, an 8 oz container of plain yogurt, a few pineapple chunks and half a banana. That made a delicious smoothie!

Lately my oldest loves a smoothie... I take frozen mixed fruit (whatever is in the freezer, but been told NO blueberries) and blend with fruit juice...either oj or pineapple. She always asks for more!

That sounds delicious! My granddaughter's favorite smoothie right now is frozen mangos and strawberries with half orange juice and half carrot juice. One the smoothie is processed, she fills the glass about 3/4 of the way, then she adds a very generous dollop of whipped cream.
