Disney Vacation Club DVC

Disney Vacation Club-worth it?

I am not a member of DVC however we did take the tour of the Saratoga Springs with the sales presentation when we were there in 2004. So my question is when is buying into the vacation club a good investment? I mean does it only pay off if you have large families that travel together? We only have 2 adults and 1 child in our family. To be honest I can't remember what all was said at the sales presentation.(that was a long time ago) But I remember thinking at the time that it would not be a good deal for us. I know it must be a good deal for others because I know they sell well or they would not keep building new ones.
We usually go to Disney World at least once a year sometimes twice. We plan our trips around free dining or when Disney is running a good special. We stay at a moderate or deluxe and usually stay 5-6 nights. We always book a package with Disney that includes our tickets. Also we can be fexiable with our travel times since I homeschool. Is this only a good value if you must travel at peak times when the kids are out of school?
I can't help but feel like we are missing out on something by not being members. Would love to hear what others think .

Well for me its a good deal but I dont travel in peak times. I liked the accomodations and also that in the long run the cost for the room was less than if I took a full travel package from disney. In terms of the dining you have to consider that as a DVC memeber you DO NOT get that perk so you would always pay full price for that but then you have to consider that each room comes with a complete kitchen so you may not even need the dining dependent on how you plan your trip out. I like it because I am not one to be buying food out all the time. I like that the rooms are top notch with huge tubs and tvs and the kids get to have their own room so hubby and I have privacy. I like that I can have basically a five star hotel experience without the price. I don't travel to Disney alot I only go once a year but even so I still consider it a good deal.
