October Stockpile and Pantry Challenge!
FamilyHost_Annabelle - September 21, 2009
Thanks to CouponsCoach, weve received a great deal of information about how to save money using coupons and frugal strategies to help our budgets survive. Lets put our knowledge to the test with a little challenge. I propose we attempt to do three things during the entire month of October. Since weve been stockpiling for a number of months, the first thing I think we can do is to live off our stockpile as much as possible for the month of October. The second thing we can do is to try to avoid buying anything that we dont have a coupon for (which we realize isnt possible all the time). The third is to make meals from our pantry and/or freezer, and fill in with whatever fresh produce or protein we need to round out the meal nutritionally (we dont want to forgo nutrition to save a buck).

Try this challenge and post your weekly results here!

I did fairly well but was really too busy to post my results each week. However, I added up my receipts for the month of October and spent a total of $147.25 on perishable and non-perishable items. But now the cupboards are bare, so it's time to stockpile again!

Well, I would love to participate, but I don't think my family wants to eat cereal and granola bars all month. :)

That's all I have in my stockpile right now, it's terrible! I have been shopping once a week and just buying what we need, or sending my husband to do that. Real life has been too crazy lately, and that's been working for us lately.

Okay - here's my stockpile/pantry supper for tonight:

1/2 lb elbow macaroni, cooked
1 can chicken (6 oz)
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 can milk
1 package of frozen peas
4 slices of American cheese

Mix first 5 ingredients together in a buttered casserole dish and top with cheese. Bake for 30 minutes at 350 F.

We completed the dinner with cucumber spears from the neighbor's garden and topped it off with orchard picked baked apples with cinnamon.

Annabelle, due to some unexpected medical expenses, I have been doing this for the last three months. To my surprise (or not), the only things I have had to purchase at all are the perishable things such as milk, eggs, cheese and bread.. I even had some bread frozen from a time I had a couple of coupons and it was on a good sale. Toasted, I have been unable to tell the difference. I am at the point of needing some things this month, but I can't believe I was able to make it for three months. Knew I could for a month or two, but three has been wonderfu!
