Finding and Using Free Samples
CouponsCoach - October 07, 2009

While couponing may net you some grocery and household products for free, you can also save money by requesting Free Samples from your favorite companies. Here's what you need to know:

Where to Find Free Samples:

Product Websites: Check on your favorite products' websites for offers, like these current offers for Dove Shampoo and L'Oreal Revitalift Wrinkle Repair.
http://www.dove.us/#/haircare/free_sample.aspx
http://www.lorealparisusa.com/_us/_en/default.aspx#/?page=top{userdata//d+d//|diagnostic|main:mylorealoffers|media:_blank|nav|overlay:_blank}

Store Websites: Walmart.com offers free samples that change throughout the month.

Vocalpoint: Become a Vocalpoint member and receive free samples and coupons for free full-sized products by mail.

Things to Keep in Mind:

Watch your privacy when filling out forms to receive free samples. I used "Valued Customer" as my first and last name, and I use a fake birthdate. FYI, the main reason you're asked for your birthdate is to comply with internet laws; the company needs to know that you're an adult.

To avoid getting junk mail or spam, be sure to look for a box to check on most forms; this keeps your information from being shared. In all the years I've been requesting samples, I haven't noticed an increase in either, but go ahead and be careful.

You can get yourself a a "junk" email address that you use for online shopping and requesting free samples. This way, your personal email isn't shared and your inbox isn't cluttered with product newsletters, ads, and other information.

What to do with Free Samples:

Keep an "office bag" full of trial-sized samples of products you might need during the day--toothpaste, deodorant, feminine products, etc. I kept mine in the diaper bag, and it came in handy when we had to rush out of the house and I forgot something.

Try some new products. It's fun to try a new product without spending the money first. Companies send out free samples to share new products with consumers.

Get creative. You can put a bunch of trial-sized products together and make a great gift for a family member who travels; it'll save them both time and money before their next trip to have airport-safe sizes at hand!

Get some mail for your kids. I pack the trial-sized cereal boxes and granola bars I get in the mail for long car rides or other times when we need snacks. You can even request free DVDs for your children.

Awesome tips. Thanks!

I know the websites for Walmart and P&G often have free samples on there and they're usually fun to try out.

I learned early the benefit of having a separate email for all sorts of commercial emails. It's made a huge difference to my inbox.
