Best Shopping Deals for the Week
luvbermuda - August 08, 2008
I just came home from our local Publix store. With coupons matching their Buy One Get one Free Sale, I was able to save over $44 ! For $65 worth of food and products I only spent $21!!

I love when this happens. Publix is gret because you can still use two coupons with their BYGO sales!

I also was able to stick up on some school supplies at Walgreen's. 9 cents for pencils, highlighters and some folders. We won't be using all of those but we can donate some to our local school.

So what were your great deals this week?

You got quite a deal on that! I like shopping early for Christmas as well. It's finding places to hide things as kids get older that gets tough.

I know exactly what you mean. I'll find the perfect hiding place and then I can't remember where I put it and then I forget that I even bought it.

Okay - true confession time for me. Years ago when the girls were little, I bought a whole bunch of Christmas presents during a back-to-school sale and didn't want the girls to find them. Our tiny house has no room for anything extra, so my mom suggest that I have the package sent to her. The package arrived and she put it in the attic until I was ready to have them sent back.

Fast forward to the middle of December. I began to search the house for the presents I bought, and was going nuts trying to find them. My husband kept asking me if I really bought them, and I finally showed him the receipt (after I glared at him for 10 seconds or so). He helped me look everywhere, but no luck.

About a week later mom called to finalize for the big holiday, and after our hellos, she said to me, "You know, dear, I still have that big box for you in the attic. Did you need it sent back, or would you like dad and me to bring it with us when we come for Christmas?" After my initial shock and a lot of laughter, I turned to my husband and said, "See? I told her I really bought them!" LOL

The funniest thing is that although this happened over 25 years ago, every year my mom makes me laugh by calling me the week before Christmas for her annual, "Dear, I have no boxes in the attic for you this year" phone call! If she ever skipped a year, my life would not be the same! LOL

Oh that's funny! I have done that too! Years ago I bought each of my now teenagers 50 gallon rubbermaid totes. I buy things and put stuff in them year round. We do it for all of the children. I keep the totes at my dad's place. They each have a different color so I know who gets what and on my calendar every year in December I write "clean out dad's closet". Then I schedule some "Mom"time and I go over and wrap everything. Since my dad shops on Christmas eve and I have to go with him, I just grab the totes and leave them in the car. Since we are so busy with cookies and milk for Santa and dancing to Christmas music noone ever goes to the car. When everyone is asleep Santa visits the house. It's wonderful fun to get to pull surprises on the teenagers still:)

I came across a greal deal while on vacation! There is this wonderful little store called Old-World Trade in Gatlinburg, TN. They have a bit of this and that. Wonderful hand made scented soaps keep the store smelling wonderful. You can find a coupon for them in the To Do city guide for 10% off. I found a sushi set that was just beautiful. It was unlike anything I've seen before. The lady at the store told me that it was imported from Japan and that the artist never makes the same set twice. It was a steal at $45 but the coupon made the price even better. I'll have to take a picture and post it before I wrap it. It's going to be a Christmas gift for two of my friends.

If you are in the area, do check it out. They have a ton of nice stuff, cheap, and then you pull out your coupon. ^_^

Went to our local BJ's this weekend. And for $100 I got enough meat to last 6 weeks! I'm so loving it. It's all broken down into single meals, wrapped and frozen. It's very exciting because they just lowered some of their prices and this has helped us immensely. We also were able to stock up on things like soda, laundry soap, chicken stock. Some great deals and all for so cheap! My husband was doing the happy dance throughout the store as he realized how much we were spending. Less than $25/week for the next six weeks. All we have to do now is buy fruits, vegi's, bread and lunch meats weekly. So, with the money we are not spending we are "hiding" for Christmas presents. You'd think he won the lottery, he is soooo cute!:)
