Do you hate clipping coupons? Do you forget to bring them to the store? Welcome to the "Coupons of the Future," electronic coupons. Here's what you need to know:
What are e-coupons? E-coupons are carried on your store loyalty cards, the ones you scan at the register to receive sale prices and promos. You can add e-coupons to your cards by visiting the websites above, choosing the coupons you'd like (I add them all, there's no reason not to), and when you purchase the product you'll see the savings automatically deducted under the specific item on your receipt.
Where can you find e-coupons? There are three major sites for e-coupons:
Shortcuts http://www.shortcuts.com/ Cellfire http://www.cellfire.com/ P&G eSaver http://www.pgesaver.com/ Note: while Cellfire asks for your cell phone number to identify you, you can opt out of receiving any text messages or incurring any charges. Log into each site, set up an account, and then add your store loyalty cards by number.
Where can I use e-coupons? Most grocery chains nationwide are participating in the three e-coupon programs above. With Shortcuts, you'll see different coupons available to different store chains.
When are they updated? Cellfire updates their e-coupons every two weeks, while Shortcuts updates monthly. At P&G eSaver, the coupons only update quarterly, so you don't have to visit the site as often.
How can I maximize my savings with e-coupons? You can actually "stack" two e-coupons, so if both Cellfire and Shortcuts offer the same coupon, say .75 off 2 Betty Crocker Supreme Brownie Mixes, you'll see both discounts on your receipt. Plus, you can still use a paper manufacturer's coupon with that purchase. I was able to buy two boxes of Brownie Mix for $1.00 by using a paper coupon (that doubled) and the two e-coupons. Remember to use the same strategies from Beginner Coupon Strategies http://family.go.com/community/groups/coupon-clippers-grp/beginner-coupon-strategies-6305/ such as combining coupons with sale prices to maximize your savings.
Electronic coupons are a trend that will continue. Already companies are offering coupons and deals via cell phone and text messages. You can even sign up to be Fans on Facebook and Twitter--if you don't know what those are, head over to the Kids & Technology Group http://family.go.com/community/groups/kids-and-technology-grp/ Think of all the paper you'll save over printable coupons! I recently signed up for this program when it was featured on Safeway's website. I didn't end up getting the Lucky Charms coupon that I had registered for my card. Is there a time delay from the time you add the coupon electronically to your card to when you can use it in the store? Not acceptable?

I just had that happen over the weekend. I emailed Customer Service and they credited my account. It's supposed to show up on my next receipt when I use my store card. Not acceptable?

This is a great thing, but only if there are stores in your area which participate.

I know exactly what you mean, jeepsnuglr. My favorite store does not allow e-couponing. Soon it's not going to be my favorite store any longer. Not acceptable?
