Parents Weekend
kayceecat - September 06, 2009
Most colleges have a Parent's Weekend where there are activities planned for you and your student. Will you be going to it? What does your child's college offer as family activities?

I wish! My daughter will spend her first semester as college freshman overseas, and then attend the rest of college in Boston starting in the spring. It's an amazing opportunity (wish I could have done that!) and I'm so excited for her. But, it's so hard to say goodbye. I miss her already, and she hasn't even left yet. The Parent's Weekend thing isn't the same as it is for the college she's attending in Boston. I'm suddenly longing for that kind of experience--guess we'll do that next year. On the other hand, we get to spend Thanksgiving all together in another country.

What country is your daughter studying in? I think studying abroad is a great opportunity and I applaud your daughter for trying it. It is out of the comfort level of my college sons, though I wish they had considered it further.

She's in Greece, which is so wonderful, but so far away. I'm with you--I think study abroad is an amazing thing--wish I'd had the opportunity. I thought she was incredibly brave for signing on first semester. She's having a ball, becoming so self sufficient. But, thank goodness for Skype! It's great to be able to have face-to-face chats with the whole family (even the cats) while she' away. Will you get to go to your sons' parents' weekend?
