Are we just lazy?
FamilyHost_Pia - November 20, 2008
OK, you had a busy day but you still have paperwork to file and your linen closet needs attention. Do you use those bad days as an excuse to leave those papers for tomorrow? Does not doing it mean you are lazy?

no it does not mean you are lazy............if you never do it maybe then i would consider it a lazy thing..but breaking from the normal crazy life schedule is perfectly ok to do every once in awhile...and it definately helps out for that moment with your stress level....by not raising it!

I always found myself doing housework after the kids were in bed, or while they napped....even while they are visiting friends, or at school....Now that I'm in a smaller space...a 1-bedroom apartment, I can't move around cleaning if they're asleep....they're in the living room and on my bedroom floor....so I clean when they're playing video games or watching TV....but NEVER when they want to be outside! And I won't allow myself to not take them outside or to the park because I need to clean. No, your house shouldn't turn into a pit...but it seems easy to me to do both without either the children or the house having to suffer....however, sometimes, if the dishes are left in the sink...so be it....better to ignore the dishes than the kids. And I try to ALWAYS have at least one window in the house open at least an inch...especially in cold weather. That's actually saved my life on 2 occasions...even my cat's....when I had apartment furnaces that were so clogged carbon monoxide was filling the apartment. Even the furnace man told me that saved us!

[....] Fresh air is great, no matter what! And I never had a kid get sick from being outside, just from being inside with the windows closed and breathing all the dust and germs!
By QueenDee29
I agree with you! I think that is why school children get sick, they are locked up indoors all day!

Apparently, having balance is the key. Ignoring housework to spend time with you kids is not lazy. But, it CAN be showing laziness. Ignoring the kids demands to take care of important things isn't being a bad mom or dad. But it COULD be a sign that your parenting skills are lacking. So, lets try to not let the house become a pit, while spending a good portion of time parenting responsibly. It might take some planning and discipline, but it is worth it to all concerned.

You are so right BroncosDad. Balance is the key. My sister likes to pick on me all the time. She says my house is spotless. It's not spotless it's lived in. I like that the kids help pick up their toys in the afternoon and right before bedtime. We play games cleaning up and giggling about who can pick up the most. They both love to help put the laundry in the washer and dryer. It's fun. Sometimes it slows me down, but, if they have fun and want to help I am all for that!
