  This is an awesome cake! I wish I was more talented when it comes to creating such master pieces but I am trying to get tips here and maybe get the courage to try one :)

You are very sweet and good for my ego but I must be honest... this cake is very easy when you have something to copy! Years ago I saw a cake in Family Fun and took my cue from them;
they used lifesavers for life preservers just adding four little red lines to make it look realistic.
two Hershey "treasures stacked to make a treasure chest, you can add little yellow dots inside to represent treasure or if you can find little round gold and silver balled candy at a cake decorating store even better. I use a line of brown frosting on the bottom treasure chest to hold the top treasure chest on at an angle and to stick the gold ball candy on so it does not fall off. You can find gummy sharks at some stores and Goldfish crackers are for your school of fish, just add one black dot for an eye. The seaweed is strips cut from green fruit rollups and twisted a little. The shiny blue is decorators gel and you want to be sure to use a stiff frosting recipe for the rest. Buy a wiltons cake decorating book and it can walk you through techniques for decorating. Then just practice a little... your kids will love that part as they eat all your samples. If you go to the family fun website you can copy some GREAT ideas and incorporate some of your own. TIP: if you ever want to create edible sand finely chop cinnamon graham crackers, to create edible dirt shave a hershey bar... I use symphony bars they are even better! Good Luck!
