Post Your Cake Photos Here!
FamilyHost_Laura - July 21, 2008
I'm a little late starting this topic, since a couple awesome bakers already posted their creations in their own topics. But going forward, this is the place to post your photos of cool themed cakes or just any cakey creations, so we all know where to go to 'ooh' and 'ahh' at the latest cakes. Go ahead, post yours!

Your cakes rank right up there with the ones on the cake challenges on the Food Channel. I am so impressed. Is that fondant that you used on this one? If so, how did you learn to get it so smooth, and how did you do the brown stripes?

Thank you so much!! :-)
The cake was done in buttercream and fondant. The bottom was iced in pink buttercream, and then I used a black satin ribbon to put around the bottom. The top tier was iced in white buttercream, then I made black fondant and cut out stripes for the Zebra print. When I use fondant, I found it works much better it you use Crisco to keep your hands and work surface coated while your working with it. The crisco keeps it from drying out and sticky to things and it gives it a smoother look. The "Happy Birthday Kacey" was done with white chocolate that I colored pink and black & then painted them with Luster Dust to make them a little shiny.

Thanks!! :-) The silver that is on the moon & stars is called "luster dust" is is an edible glitter/powder. You can brush it on fondant like I did, or I've also brused it onto chocolate (I made white choc. seashells for a cake & put luster dust on them to give them a little 'bling')

Your cakes are amazing!! One question, how did you get the silver on the cake? Is that just edible food coloring? This is too cute!
