Library Anyone?
desurae - January 07, 2009
Do you go to your local library to get your latest book fix? Or do you prefer to purchase your books for later reference? Does it depend on the type of book you want?

I love going to the library. I am a fast reader so I love the fact that I can pick up more at anytime. Sadly (sort of) I also have a photographic memory when it comes to what I've read so rereading books is not enjoyable (making it pointless to purchase fiction). I also like to check out cookbooks before buying them. I have been very disappointed in some that I was sure that I would love! I have to admit though that sometimes it's a real pain having to wait for my turn to read the latest of an author I love (Laurel K Hamilton took forever to get!!!)

i too am a speedy reader and can finish a thick book in 2 days or less and the thiner ones sometimes i read 3-4 a day! i tend to get a huge bag of books from the library, but right now am reading my own as i have more than enough to keep me busy! my son, does use the library quite often for basically getting cd's which he gets songs he loves to listen to. janet

I am so glad to be part of this group! I am at the library all the time getting books. I read really fast (when I have the time) and I like that if I don't like a book, at least I haven't paid for it!

The library here is sometimes pretty limited on what I want so sometimes I go to a used book store and buy something. That way if I don't like it at least I can trade for something else. I have to be really aching for a book to buy it new.

Our library also has a huge purchase shelf. My daughter and I love to go through and end up buying as much as we borrow.
I am a really slow reader. I usually read at bedtime, and can fall asleep before finishing a couple pages, so I like to buy the books that will take a while. (I have been known to exceed the renewal limit.)
I like to borrow informative books though. ( you tend to get less attached to these) I just had one that was about windows vista secrets as I just got a new computer, and want to know what it can do.
Its all good

I'm finding we use the library more and more! My bookshelves are so full and I have decided to stop purchasing when I am just reading fiction especially. I am doing this especially for the books I read for my book club. So many of them I do not particular care for so why buy them and have them in my own library!

What I love about the library is that I can log into their website and reserve books and have them transferred to the library nearest me. I can also renew books online. I have made great use of the library this summer!

Oooh ... I do that too! So does our daughter! I've been to the library and seen it in the card catalog before I left and by the time I got there it was checked out! So I use that almost all the time now. It makes it a 5 minute errand that way too.

I love cook books. I love the weird ones best. I drive my hubby crazy with them because he's not adventurous in any way when it comes to food. I have one that is a replica of the civil war times that I try from time to time just to irritate him ( or so he claims), So far, the beer bread and one of the duck recipes are his fav's. Dick Francis is a Mystery writer that I love, but like you I have a hard time rereading which makes it so disappointing.
