Activities you can turn into party favors!
FamilyHost_Pia - 2 weeks ago
Kid party favors dont have to be throw-away items or hum drum birthday tokens. What are some great party favors that the guests will enjoy at the party as much as when they go home? I think the best birthday favor is from a couple of years ago when we had everyone tie-dye t-shirts. I went to the local Dollar Tree store and bought t-shirts and a huge bag of rubber bands! I already had Kool-Aid packs and vinegar at home, so no expense there. The kids had fun dying them and some of the kids are still wearing them today!

What a great idea the tie-dye shirts are! That would be a fun activity for the church's youth group. One of our monthly activities was to make banks so that the kids could collect money for the local food pantry. We bought little bisque piggy banks at the local craft store for $1 each. Then we bought paints and spray shelac for under $10. Altogether, the activity cost us approximately $30 for 20 kids, and everyone had a great time creating their banks! That would work for a birthday party.

Great idea on the t-shirts. We did something similar when my son was little. I bought plain white baseball caps and had the kids at the part each decorate their own hat with those paints that come in a squeeze tube with the tips you can write with. It was a huge hit.

Sometimes at our preschool if we're having a big party, we'll get the smallish canvas tote bags (Michael's and AC Moore have them) and set out a bunch of fabric markers. The kids can decorate the bags and then collect whatever goodies (often what falls out of the pinata!) from the party and keep it all in there. It's an activity to keep them busy for a while and then a nice keepsake to take home and enjoy over and over.

Oh, also a great idea for either boys or girls! I can already see girls get the glitter and rhinestones ready! :)

Another great idea for girls are hairpins or ponytail holders. You can buy the plain ones in bulk and then hot glue (under supervision) flowers or colorful stones on them! The girls have fun designing their own and they get to use them well after the party!

I remember some years back when my oldest had an outfit with sunflowers on it but no matching ponytail holder. I just took a leftover sunflower I had from making a wreath, cut the bloom and sewed it to the elastic. To secure it a bit more, I used a little but of hot glue. It turned out so cute!

While looking for some craft ideas I ran across these cute butterflies: http://familyfun.go.com/crafts/winged-wonders-670394/
I think they would be a hit at any party and can still be used well after the party! I can imagine making a mobile hanging in my kitchen or a little girls room!
