I made the candy ornaments today and they turned out great. I used cany mints so they would match my tree. I'm going to make more this Saturday with the different colored candy. Here's a picture of one of them.

Welcome to our great group bustedinnc... this looks like a great idea! By any chance do you have any photos?

I always forget pictures. I've got to work on that. Christmas break is coming, we'll have to make them again to occupy the little ones and of course for photo ops.

Thank you, I love sharing my ideas with everyone. I saw another project on food network this weekend. They were really cute ornaments made from hard candy. You bake them and they look like stained glass. They were so simple fast and easy to make. I'm going to try them tomorrow, can't wait! I've attached the link for the complete directions. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/neelys/hard-candy-ornaments-recipe/index.html

Another idea for ornaments or gift tags is apple and cinnamon scented dough. This is so easy, the recepie says to mix equal parts of applesauce and cinnamon but I needed more cinnamon. Hit the dollar store, I can usually get the cinnamon 2 for $1 and the applesauce for $1 too. Pour the applesauce in a plastic bag and add the cinnamon. Kids have fun squeezing the bag, keep adding cinnamon til it gets doughy. Then you can roll out and cut with cookie cutters just use more cinnamon instead of flour. Or sculpt them. Don't make them too thin or they brake, too thick and they take too long to bake, and don't forget a hole for hanging. Bake them like you would the salt dough. If you want to invest the time you can roll them out cut into ornament shapes poke a hole in them and use a toothpick to write to and from with the names for gift tags. After the gifts are opened use them for air freshners. The house and the tree smell great!

Very simple 1/2 cup of salt 1 cup of flour 1/2 cup of water. Add the water a little at a time because you may not need it all. You will have to knead it by hand after all of the water has been mixed. Roll it out on a floured surface( The kids love adding the flour) and use cookie cutters to cut out different shapes. Take a straw or toothpick and make a hole in the top of each. Bake in the oven at 250 degrees F. You can use any type of paint I used acrylic but just be careful because this is pretty hard to get out of fabric. You can use hooks or a pretty ribbon to hang them. Happy Crafting!
