With all of the fresh fruits and vegetables that summer blesses us with comes those pesky little gnats that hover over everything. At our house we call them "banana gnats." I have found a sure fire way to get rid of them. Pour a little dish soap in a glass, add water and about a 1/4 cup apple cider Not acceptable?
If I am out of buttermilk while in the middle of cooking, I add it to milk as a substitute for buttermilk. 1 tablespoon goes with 1 cup and you have to let it sit for a few minutes. Not acceptable?

I had heard you could do this, but never tried it. So, it really works??? Good to know! Thank you. Not acceptable?
Of course, I use it to clean the coffee maker and to get smells out of washing machine, but there are so many uses for vinegar in the home. I use it in place of jet dry in the dishwasher. A real money saver since I can buy a big jug of vinegar for less than $2. Remove water rings on tables by rubbing with a mixture of equal parts of white distilled vinegar and olive oil. Rub with the grain and polish for the best results. Boil a solution of 1/4 cup of white distilled vinegar and 1 cup of water in the microwave. Will loosen splattered on food and deodorize. But don't throw that bowl of vinegar away, it is suppose to be good for getting soap scum off shower doors, so re-use it after cleaning the microwave. Clean the refrigerator, wash with a solution of equal parts water and white distilled vinegar. To clean and disinfect cutting boards, wipe with full strength white distilled vinegar. After cooking something smelly, like fish, set a bowl on the counter and it will absorb all the nasty odor. Also to remove odors from the fridge, place 1 cup apple cider vinegar in a glass and set in refrigerator. Within 2 days, any smell is gone! For pet accidents on the carpet, first test the color fastness of the carpet with white distilled vinegar in an inconspicuous place. Then sprinkle distilled vinegar over the fresh pet accident. Wait a few minutes and sponge from the center outward. Blot up with a dry cloth. This procedure may need to be repeated for stubborn stains. Smelly dog? Wet the dog down with fresh water. Use a mixture of 1 cup white distilled vinegar and 2 gallons water. Saturate the dog's coat with this solution. Dry the dog off without rinsing the solution. The smell will be gone! To kill grass growing between cracks in the concrete, pour full strength vinegar on it. You may need to repeat to fully starve the grass or weeds. Unclog showerheads by soaking them in white distilled vinegar overnight. Not acceptable?

My husband had to do this when he was in the middle of his banana bread this year. It turned out as fabulous as ever! Not acceptable?

Buttermilk in your banana bread? I always make banana bread and muffins and I LOVE buttermilk! Could you please send me that recipe? I am always on the lookout for better banana breads. Thanks! Not acceptable?
How about four pesky cats? I found that when they did not respond to the usual spray bottle of water - to get off the counters, stop fighting, stop stalking the girls' pet mice - I added white vinegar to the water and NOW it works. They hate the smell! Not acceptable?
