Lemons
fun_in_florida_sun - September 20, 2008
Here are some great uses I came across fir Lemons. I may be trying a few.
1. Polish copper by rubbing it with a lemon juice soaked cloth and buffing it dry.
2. Brass and aluminum can be polished with a paste of lemon juice and cream of tartar. Another way to polish brass is by sprinkling salt on half of a lemon and rubbing it on the brass item. This method works on stainless steel as well.
3. Rub lemon on your faucets to remove lime scale, hard water stains, and soap residue. It also works on porcelain.
4. Whiten tennis shoes by spraying them with lemon juice and placing them in the sun
5. For a mild, stain-free bleach, soak your delicates in a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda for at least half an hour before washing.
6. Grind citrus through the garbage disposal to get rid of nasty odours and freshen the drain.
7. Make your own spray cleaner by mixing two tablespoons lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon liquid soap, 1/2 teaspoon washing soda, and one teaspoon Borax into two cups hot water. Mix until dissolved.
8. Humidifiers can pick up unwanted scents. Freshen up the aroma by adding 3 to 4 teaspoons citrus juice to the water.
9. Clean your windows and glass by rubbing straight lemon juice on them and then buffing dry with newspapers.
10.Dry lemon or orange peels can be used to freshen drawers

I love lemons to get rid of onion smell on my hands!

A little segue on the onion issue:

Whenever I cut onions, my eyes water like crazy. I read a suggestion to light a scented candle right next to where you're cooking. So I keep an Apple Cinnamon candle in the kitchen for when I'm slicing onions. It's solved the problem so well and my eyes never act up anymore.

I'd heard the garbage disposal idea, but not the others. Thanks for sharing!

These are fabulous tips Fun-In-Florida-Sun! Thank you so much for sharing these. Whenever I use a lemon in a recipe, I have always used the remaining lemon to clean counter tops. I just rub the lemon allover the counter and then wipe down with a damp cloth. Lemon is a wonderful cleaning item.
