Toys to love: Drop and Roar Dinosaur

Genoa and her new best friend

I seem to have incredibly bad luck finding toys that my children actually PLAY with.  We have buckets full of matchbox cars and piles of Power Ranger plastic just begging to be stepped on, but most of it won't hold my kids' attention for longer than three minutes.  Sometimes I try to calculate the cost-to-entertainment ratio of our toy purchases and most of them come up incredibly short.  It's always the thing I think they'll adore that ends up wasting our precious little storage space.

But!  Last week I noticed our 10-month-old daughter, Genoa, playing, actually playing, with the Fisher Price Roll-a-Rounds Drop and Roar Dinosaur toy she received for Christmas.  She finally figured out how to make it light up and play music when she puts the balls in the holes and now she loves it.  It has resulted in several ten minute blocks of time (like the one I'm using to write this post!) in which she completely entertains herself.  That may not sound like much time, but for a 10-month-old, it's an eternity.  Amazingly, the same toy also keeps the attention of her construction-obsessed 3-and-a-half-year-old brother, Alex.  They actually play with it TOGETHER.  And no one even gets hurt!

As long as you can keep track of the balls (they are the perfect size to fit under our couch, which actually makes them fairly easy to find) and tolerate the perky, but not obnoxious music (it does have a lower volume setting), I highly recommend it.
