Mahar Drygoods' Cranky Pants

To help find a unique gift for the baby who has everything, I'm going to feature some of my favorite products over the next week. To start, I'd like to cover clothing. Unlike older kids, babies and toddlers are still too young to rip open a box and then whine, "Not clothes! I wanted a toy!"

I have far too many clothing picks to cover in one post, so I'm going to cover the bottom half this time, and later get to the top half.

First up are the cranky monster pants from Mahar Drygoods. These are adorable and perfect for the little monster (I mean angel, of course) in your life. Hand knit from wool yarn, these can be worn as pants or as a diaper cover for those of you using cloth diapers. If monsters aren't your thing, you can also get them in a pirate theme, or a sock monkey theme.

If you've ever lived in a colder area, you have to deal with baby socks, and most of them never stay on. I've only found one brand of socks that ever stay on those little feet, and the bonus is they're cute, too! Trumpette socks are very stretchy, hold up well when worn over and over, and are longer than many baby socks. But the real fun is in the designs - they have socks that look like mary jane shoes, high-top sneakers, combat boots, and ballerina slippers.

Of course, there are times when baby needs shoes, and not just socks that look like shoes. My favorite soft-soled shoes are Isabooties. We had a pair for Cordy that got a lot of use, and will soon be on Mira's feet. These shoes, unlike most soft-soled shoes, are made of fabric, not leather. They're machine-washable and machine-dryable, skid-proof and fade resistant. They're not too tight around the ankles, yet they stay on well.

Finally, you may have heard of the very versatile BabyLegs. These leggings for babies and toddlers are a very stretchy knit that holds its shape well. One size fits all, from three month olds to three year olds and beyond. Wear them with a onesie instead of pants, or under a dress to keep little legs covered, as knee protection for new crawlers, or as an extra layer in the winter to prevent cold air from reaching that space that develops when you carry a baby and the pants ride up, exposing the leg just above the sock line. Older kids can wear them as arm warmers or below-the-knee leg warmers. My favorite aspect of using BabyLegs is that you can change a diaper without having to strip them off, unlike tights.
