I always get a little teary-eyed (Mommy hormones!) when I talk about how thankful I am for things like my husband, my kids, good friends, our health and happiness.
So along those lines, and being that I run a shopping… Read More

This will be the first time in my entire life that I am totally in charge of cooking Thanksgiving dinner. Guess it's a good thing that it will just be the four of us: The Golfer, The Monkey, The Cheese, and me. (Sounds like the name of a funky rock band, doesn't it?)
Because we decided to go home for Christmas instead of Thanksgiving this year, we will be celebrating Turkey Day on our own. As much as I will miss being… Read More

One day this past week, it suddenly dawned on me that Thanksgiving was *gulp* a little over a week away.
I felt faint.
You see, I had made the decision to host Thanksgiving dinner at our house this year, seemingly forgetting several important points. 1) I am 33 weeks pregnant, 2) I have a toddler, 3) I am taking a graduate class with a MEGA PAPER due the Monday after Thanksgiving, 4) I work full-time, 5) I tend to overachieve in the… Read More

What on earth is a mother of 7 doing posting about cooking for two? I started out this two-fer crusade simply wanting to come up with alternatives to the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. So, when it comes to a holiday like Thanksgiving where a full turkey would surely be overkill for two… Read More

For many families, the holiday season means "to grandmother's house we go." Thanksgiving is the biggest travel holiday for Americans. I am writing about safe and healthy travel as a way of reminding MYSELF to think ahead this holiday season!
I find it hard to plan ahead for a holiday road trip like I should but when I do prepare well for a trip, I can tell a big difference in our family stress level. Traveling by car… Read More

While, traditionally speaking, Hanukkah is a minor festival on the Jewish calendar, this holiday has gained increased importance in modern American culture. Hanukkah, or the "Festival of Lights," overlaps with Christmas celebrations, so Hanukkah gift exchanges can help prevent Jewish children and families from feeling "left out" of the Christmas gift-giving that is everywhere during the month December. This year, the eight-day celebration begins at sundown on December 4.
